Why did MARVEL SNAP go offline in the U.S.?
On January 19, 2025, Apple removed MARVEL SNAP from U.S. App Store availability along with other apps it said were developed by ByteDance and its subsidiaries. Apple’s notice, reproduced by TechCrunch, said the apps would no longer be available for download or updates in the U.S. App Store.

The connection was the game’s publisher at the time: Nuverse, a ByteDance games division. Second Dinner developed MARVEL SNAP. The law at issue covered defined applications operated directly or indirectly by ByteDance or TikTok; the available record does not show that Congress named MARVEL SNAP specifically or passed a separate law targeting the game. The White House’s January 20, 2025 order describes the law and its effective date.
What happened, and when?
- January 18–19, 2025: TikTok became inaccessible to U.S. users on the evening of January 18 and returned the afternoon of January 19, according to the Congressional Research Service. MARVEL SNAP was also caught up in the U.S. app-availability disruption.
- January 19: Second Dinner said MARVEL SNAP was unavailable in U.S. app stores and could not be played in the country. The studio said the outage was unexpected and that it was working to restore the game, according to GameSpot.
- January 20: President Trump signed an order directing the Attorney General not to enforce the act for 75 days while the administration reviewed next steps. The order concerned TikTok; it should not be read as a formal ruling specifically about MARVEL SNAP.
- January 21: Second Dinner announced that the game was back online in the U.S., as reported by Game Developer.
Was MARVEL SNAP permanently banned?
No. The January outage ended, and Second Dinner said on January 21 that the game had returned online in the U.S. The official MARVEL SNAP website showed current news and PC and mobile download options when checked on October 8, 2026. Store listings and regional availability can change, so check the current listing for your device if you cannot download or launch the game.

What changed after the outage?
When it announced the restoration, Second Dinner said it would bring more services in-house and work with a new publisher to help prevent a similar interruption. In June 2025, the game’s official patch notes described a move to a fully self-published build, with Second Dinner handling logins, support and the web shop. The official site’s news and download page reflects the game’s ongoing operation; the shift followed the January disruption rather than changing the fact that the game had already returned.

It is shorthand for a temporary interruption to U.S. access and App Store distribution during the shutdown—not evidence of a permanent prohibition or a law written specifically against MARVEL SNAP. Apple’s notice included the game among the apps it removed from U.S. store availability, while Second Dinner separately confirmed that players in the country could not play during the outage.

The White House order referred to TikTok as a platform used by 170 million Americans; that figure is about TikTok, not MARVEL SNAP. The cited sources do not establish a MARVEL SNAP player count or quantify how many players were affected.
