What did the Year 1 reveal actually promise?
Sony’s February 12, 2026 announcement described a Year 1 Characters & Stage Pass with four additional characters and one new stage. On July 23, producer Takeshi Yamanaka identified Phoenix Cyclops, voiced by Ray Chase, as the first Year 1 addition and said the team planned post-launch updates including characters and stages. The official FAQ says the pass also includes battle-result poses for the 20-character base roster. The sources available here do not establish the remaining three characters or the release cadence. Why might some players find the reveal underwhelming?
Character choices depend on expectations
A Reddit thread dated October 11 reports the four-character group as Phoenix Cyclops, Thor (Jane Foster), Venom, and Jubilee. That full lineup was not confirmed by a primary announcement in the sources available here, so it should be treated as community-reported rather than settled fact. The thread shows varied individual preferences: some commenters welcome Venom, Jane Foster, or Jubilee, while others would have chosen different characters. Four characters and one stage set a modest ceiling
Four additions and one stage are a defined, finite Year 1 package. Whether that feels substantial depends partly on how quickly the characters arrive and how much each adds to the game; the available official material does not give a complete schedule. Without confirmed dates, players cannot judge the spacing or whether the content will keep the roster feeling fresh throughout the year.
The pass’s value is more than a character count
The pass includes a stage and battle-result poses alongside its four characters, but value is personal: a player who is excited about the picks may see a different proposition from someone hoping for other fighters. Standard-edition owners can upgrade to Digital Deluxe or Ultimate content through PlayStation Store, according to the official FAQ. Do online reactions show widespread backlash?
No. The sampled Reddit discussions contain mixed reactions, including complaints about PC launch problems, access restrictions, and competition, as well as players saying they are enjoying the game. These posts are self-selected anecdotes, not a poll or reliable measure of how the wider audience feels. Do early sales estimates put the game’s future at risk?
They do not answer that question on their own. These are early estimates with different geographies and measurement scopes, not figures that can be compared as though they were the same dataset.
