Mobile Legends: Bang Bang was temporarily unavailable in the United States around January 19, 2025, during enforcement of the federal law targeting certain ByteDance-controlled applications. It was not a separately announced, permanent U.S. ban on the game for its content or gameplay. The original disruption was followed by a U.S.-specific edition, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.US, which the latest indexed U.S. Apple App Store and Google Play listings show as available.
That means “banned” describes the practical effect players experienced in January 2025, but it is misleading as a description of the game’s current status.

What happened to Mobile Legends in the U.S.?
On January 19, 2025, U.S. players experienced an interruption to Mobile Legends: Bang Bang access at roughly the same time as TikTok and other ByteDance-linked applications faced disruption.

The timing followed the operative date of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, enacted as part of Public Law 118-50. The law restricted U.S. app stores and hosting providers from distributing, maintaining, or updating covered applications unless specified divestiture conditions were met. Its language addressed applications operated directly or indirectly by ByteDance, TikTok, or qualifying subsidiaries; it did not name Mobile Legends as a standalone game ban.

The official Mobile Legends North America announcement described the U.S. service as “temporarily suspended” because of circumstances outside the company’s control. Based on the statute, the timing, and that announcement, the safest description is that MLBB was caught up in the same ByteDance-app enforcement episode as TikTok.
There is no evidence in the supplied material that a U.S. regulator banned MLBB because of violence, gambling, copyright, or another game-content issue.
Was MLBB actually banned or merely delisted?
For players, the difference was difficult to notice: the game could become unavailable to download, update, or access through normal U.S. store channels. Legally and technically, however, several different events can be described as a “ban”:
- Content ban: a game is prohibited because of what it contains.
- App-store delisting: Apple or Google stops offering the app in a market.
- Service interruption: the installed app can no longer reliably connect or receive support.
- Permanent ban: access is not restored through an official replacement or new arrangement.
The January 2025 event clearly had ban-like practical effects. But the available evidence supports “temporarily suspended,” “unavailable,” or “delisted” more strongly than “permanently banned.” The later U.S. edition is especially important: it shows that the original interruption did not end with permanent loss of MLBB in the United States.
Why was Mobile Legends connected to TikTok?
The law was aimed at a category of “foreign adversary controlled applications,” not at TikTok alone. It included applications operated by ByteDance or TikTok under the conditions defined by the statute. The Congressional Research Service explains the law’s divestiture requirement and the consequences for app stores and hosting providers.

The evidence does not justify saying that TikTok itself “banned” Mobile Legends, or that Congress passed a law specifically naming MLBB. A more accurate explanation is:
Mobile Legends was caught up in the same U.S. distribution and maintenance restrictions affecting ByteDance-linked applications during the January 2025 TikTok shutdown.

The precise corporate and legal mechanism should not be overstated without a current primary source establishing every relationship between MLBB, Moonton, ByteDance, and the U.S. transition operator. The official MLBB communication announced a transition involving Skystone rather than presenting the situation as an ordinary gameplay or content dispute.
What is Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.US?
Following the interruption, MLBB announced a U.S.-specific version called Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.US. The announcement said the existing version would be temporarily removed from Google Play while the new edition was made available, with iOS approval still in progress at that point.

The Google Play listing records an update dated June 10, 2026. That is strong evidence that the U.S. edition is an actively maintained listing, although a store listing alone cannot guarantee access for every account, device, or location.

Can U.S. players download MLBB now?
Based on the latest indexed storefront pages reviewed, U.S. players can currently find the U.S. edition through Apple’s U.S. App Store and Google Play. Availability can still vary because of:
- Apple ID or Google account region;
- device compatibility;
- operating-system requirements;
- parental controls or account restrictions;
- later platform-policy changes; and
- differences between an existing installation and a fresh download.
If the app does not appear, verify that your store account is set to the United States and open the direct official listing rather than relying only on search results. Do not substitute a similarly named application.
What happens to existing accounts and progress?
This is the area where players should be most cautious. The available evidence does not establish one universal result for every account, and a separate U.S. application should not automatically be treated as interchangeable with the original global app.

If you still have the original game installed, do not uninstall it immediately. First check whether your account is linked to a Moonton account, Google, Facebook, Apple, or another supported login. Look for an official in-game notice and record your player ID, server information, screenshots, and purchase receipts.
If you install the U.S. edition and your progress is missing:
- Try each login method previously connected to the account.
- Do not create a new account until support confirms whether the old account can be recovered.
- Preserve receipts and transaction IDs for paid items.
- Use the game’s in-app Contact Us support route.
- If necessary, contact the support address shown in the U.S. listing: [email protected].
Do not assume that skins, heroes, rank, diamonds, account levels, or purchase entitlements transfer automatically. Recovery and migration depend on how the account was linked and how the U.S. edition handles existing player data.

The U.S. edition is listed as free to download with optional in-app purchases. Paid items should be purchased only through the official app-store billing system or an official in-game route.
Existing balances and purchase history are an account-support matter, not something players should presume will migrate. Keep Apple or Google receipts, avoid duplicate purchases while an account issue is unresolved, and do not use unofficial “diamond” sellers.

Should you use a VPN or APK mirror?
A VPN is not a reliable or recommended solution. It does not change the legal status of an application, guarantee access, or resolve account migration. It can also create region mismatches, payment failures, latency and matchmaking problems, fraud reviews, or terms-of-service issues.
Unofficial APK mirrors carry additional risks, including malware, modified clients, stolen credentials, payment fraud, and account penalties. The safest path is the official U.S. store listing and official MLBB support. Do not sideload an APK simply because the app is missing from a search result.

Bottom line for U.S. players
Mobile Legends was not simply erased from the United States forever after TikTok’s takedown. It was temporarily made unavailable during the January 2025 enforcement episode involving ByteDance-controlled applications, then transitioned toward a dedicated U.S. edition.

Store availability is current evidence that the game can be offered in the U.S.; it is not a guarantee that every old account, purchase, device, or installation will work without support.
