The “Nintendo Direct set for July” claim was a June 2025 rumor, not a confirmed schedule. Wood Hawker, host of the Nontendo podcast and known as BeatEmUps, said on June 20 that a Direct was coming “next month.” A later report said Nintendo had announced a Partner Showcase for July 31, but that was a distinct event format and does not confirm the rumor’s proposed lineup.

What was claimed about a July Nintendo Direct?

Insider Gaming reported on June 23, 2025, that Hawker had said during his June 20 podcast episode: “There’s going to be a Nintendo Direct next month.” The statement referred to July 2025. Hawker did not identify the source of his information, and the report said he was unsure how much of what he had heard was true. Insider Gaming’s report therefore presents an unverified claim, not a Nintendo announcement.

The report relayed several possible announcements attributed to the rumor: GameCube game “shadow-drops,” with Pokémon Colosseum mentioned as a possibility; Metaphor: ReFantazio; Death Stranding Director’s Cut; The Witcher 3; an update on Metroid Prime 4’s release date; and a possible Animal Crossing tease. None of those items should be treated as confirmed based on Hawker’s statement.

What happened on July 31?

A July 30, 2025 report by Twisted Voxel said Nintendo had officially announced a Partner Showcase for July 31. It described the presentation as roughly 25 minutes long and focused on third-party partner games for Switch and Switch 2. Twisted Voxel’s report is a secondary account; the Nintendo announcement itself is not independently verified here.

#1 Best Overall
Nintendo Switch 2 System
  • The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
  • One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
  • Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
  • Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
  • GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play

A Partner Showcase is not interchangeable with a general Nintendo Direct. The later report supports a retrospective account of a specifically dated partner-focused presentation, but it does not show that Hawker’s earlier rumored lineup was accurate or that the event matched the general Direct he described.

Were the rumored games confirmed?

The available reporting does not establish which, if any, of the rumor’s listed announcements appeared in the July 31 broadcast. Without an official Nintendo event record to check, the rumor’s specific lineup remains unconfirmed here. The responsible distinction is between Hawker’s June claim and the later secondary report about a Partner Showcase—not to treat the latter as validation of the former.
