“Weapon mods” does not refer to one universal gaming system. In Rust, mods are attachments fitted into a weapon’s available slots; in Call of Duty: Vanguard, players equip attachments in Gunsmith and can save a finished setup as a Custom Mod. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare uses “Weapon Mod” for a saved weapon configuration. The exact meaning depends on the game.
What are weapon mods?
In gaming, “weapon mods” can mean equipment that changes a weapon or a saved configuration of that weapon. The phrase alone does not identify a particular game, feature, or set of rules. Check the title you are playing before applying advice about slots, effects, or saved builds.
How weapon mods work in Rust
In Rust, weapon mods are attachments placed into a weapon’s available slots. The weapon determines which slots it has; the Rust Wiki groups them as muzzle, scope, underbarrel, and magazine. Enabled mods can change weapon stats additively or multiplicatively.
Examples include silencers and muzzle brakes, sights and scopes, lights and lasers, and extended magazines. What a particular attachment changes depends on the game’s weapon and mod mechanics. See the Rust Wiki’s Weapon Mods reference for the game-specific details.

How attachments and saved mods work in Call of Duty
Call of Duty: Vanguard
Vanguard uses Gunsmith to equip attachments that can change a weapon’s function and appearance. The categories documented by Blizzard include muzzle, underbarrel, barrel, accuracy, and ammo. Attachments can bring drawbacks as well as benefits, so compare the effects for the weapon and playstyle you have in mind. A finished configuration can be saved as a Custom Mod. These details apply to Vanguard, not automatically to other Call of Duty games. See Blizzard’s weapons and loadouts guide.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
In Activision’s Modern Warfare loadouts guide, “Weapon Mod” refers to a customized weapon configuration that a player saves and can later view or edit. Here, the term describes the saved setup rather than a universal attachment system. See Activision’s Modern Warfare loadouts guide.

How to compare weapon mods in a game
Once you know the game and weapon, compare the actual effects rather than relying on the word “mod.” Useful checks include:
- Compatibility: Which weapons accept the mod, and which slot does it use?
- Effects: Which in-game attributes change, and by how much if the game shows a value?
- Trade-offs: Does a benefit come with a drawback?
- Use case: Does the change fit the task or playstyle you want?
A setup that suits one weapon, game, or task is not automatically the best choice elsewhere. Consult the current, game-specific menus or documentation for the title and version you play.
