SEGA’s classic mobile games were reported free during a 2025 end-of-service period, but that is not a confirmed offer for new downloads today. Reporting said the affected apps had been removed from app stores by June 30, 2025. Whether you can install or restore one now depends on your regional storefront and download history, and the available sources do not verify those cases.
What the “free” headline meant
Historical Apple App Store and Google Play descriptions presented Crazy Taxi Classic and Sonic CD Classic as part of SEGA Forever, a collection of classic games offered free on mobile. The descriptions also said the apps were ad-supported and offered an optional in-app purchase to remove ads. That listing language describes the collection’s historical model; it does not establish that either app can be downloaded now or confirm current pricing. Historical app-store listings

In June 2025, coverage reported that SEGA was making nine classic mobile games free ahead of end-of-service notices. The notices reportedly appeared inside the affected games, and the coverage said SEGA had not made a formal public announcement at that time. Contemporaneous reporting on the notices
Can you download Crazy Taxi Classic or Sonic CD Classic now?
Do not treat the old “free” descriptions or search results as proof of a current download. SEGAbits reported that the affected apps had been removed from app stores by June 30, 2025; that date is an outlet-reported removal date, not a deadline established by an official SEGA announcement. | Your situation | What is established | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You have never installed the app | Reporting said the affected games were delisted. Current availability by country and operating system is not verified. | Search your country’s Apple App Store or Google Play storefront. An indexed listing or old description alone does not confirm that installation is available. |
| You installed or acquired it previously | The available sources do not establish whether a mobile-specific redownload is still possible. | Check your account’s app library or purchase history on the device platform you used. The result may vary by region, account, and platform. |
SEGA’s separate November 2025 support article concerns selected console and PC classics, not these mobile apps. Its statement that owned games remain in a library cannot be applied as a mobile redownload guarantee. SEGA CLASSICS support article

No. SEGA announced Crazy Taxi: World Tour on June 8, 2026, as a separate game planned for release in 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement does not say that Crazy Taxi Classic has returned to mobile. SEGA’s announcement
