A March 2025 report said an unnamed large US retailer expected to sell through its Nintendo Switch 2 preorder allocation on the first day. That was the retailer’s forecast—not a confirmed sellout, a published inventory count, or a guarantee that every retailer would run out.

What did the retailer report say about Switch 2 preorders?

On March 28, 2025, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson reported that internal emails and documents from an unnamed large US retailer anticipated limited Nintendo allocation and a first-day sellout of that retailer’s preorder stock. The report did not identify the retailer, reproduce the documents, or state how many consoles it expected to receive. Insider Gaming’s March 28, 2025 report

The report described a planned preorder opening on April 9, 2025, a week after the planned Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, and a June 2025 launch. It also said the retailer considered using “Pre-Order Coming Soon” messaging after the Direct, a countdown ending April 9, and an exclusive collectible coin for preorder customers. Those details were reported as plans in the retailer documents; the story did not independently verify them or establish that the coin offer was available from other sellers.

When were preorders expected to start?

The reported date was April 9, 2025. It is a historical date, not current preorder guidance. The same report mentioned a Best Buy Canada listing that had suggested April 2 preorders before being removed. Insider Gaming said it could not determine whether that listing was an error, so the two dates were a reported discrepancy, not a resolved retailer schedule.

Were Switch 2 preorders guaranteed to sell out?

No. The first-day sellout was an expectation attributed to one unnamed US retailer, based on its anticipated allocation. The report supplied neither an allocation figure nor a numerical sellout estimate, and it did not establish a probability of selling out across all retailers. Treat the claim as a retailer’s forecast at that time, not a guarantee or a current stock prediction.
