Bloons TD 6 has four map borders: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Black. Bronze and Silver mark completion of the Easy and Medium medals, respectively. Gold and Black both represent a map’s full medal set; the difference is whether its CHIMPS medal is red or black. The border categories are listed in Ninja Kiwi’s official update notes, while the exact medal counts and CHIMPS conditions below are described by the Bloons Wiki.
What each BTD6 map border means

The official notes say Bronze and Silver borders were added for completing all Easy or Medium medals. Gold and Black requirements rely on the Bloons Wiki’s medal overview; Ninja Kiwi’s cited notes do not spell out those thresholds.
Gold border vs. Black border
Both borders indicate that the map’s medals are complete. The CHIMPS medal distinguishes them: the Bloons Wiki describes Gold as the all-medals border when CHIMPS is represented by a red medal, and Black as the all-medals border when CHIMPS is represented by a black medal.
According to the Wiki’s CHIMPS page, a black CHIMPS medal requires completing the run without using saves; retrying the last round also invalidates it. The cited official update notes do not document this run condition.

How to find maps by border
Ninja Kiwi’s v41.0 notes, dated February 28, 2024, document these map-menu search filters:
/Bronze,/Silver,/Gold, or/Blackfilters for maps with that border./ShowIncompleteor/NoMedalsfinds maps that are not Gold- or Black-bordered./Showor/AllMedalsshows maps with all medals: Gold or Black Border.
These commands are documented in the official v41.0 update notes. They establish the feature as of that update; later interface changes are not covered by those notes.

Why Bronze and Silver borders exist
Ninja Kiwi’s July 25, 2023 v38.0 notes say the Bronze and Silver borders were added for completing all Easy and Medium medals, respectively, to create an easier entry point and more scaled progression for map-border collecting. The same notes do not define Gold or Black requirements in detail.
These borders are progress markers. The cited sources do not establish a separate gameplay power or reward for earning one.
