Sedatives let Agent 47 incapacitate someone without killing them. Their point is to remove a person as an obstacle while avoiding a lethal outcome—but in HITMAN: World of Assassination, that does not necessarily mean the person will be moved somewhere safe or stay undiscovered.
What sedatives do
The first-season HITMAN manual distinguishes non-lethal poisons, which sedate victims or make them ill, from lethal poisons, which kill. The HITMAN: Blood Money manual describes its non-lethal sedative syringe as a way to sedate guards and civilians obstructing the player’s path. In both descriptions, the basic purpose is incapacitation without killing.

Those manuals cover different games, so their descriptions do not establish that every sedative behaves identically in every entry. For a particular item or mission in World of Assassination, check its current in-game description.

When a sedative can be useful
In a February 5, 2023 discussion about World of Assassination, players suggested situational uses such as incapacitating people through a ventilation system, causing an NPC to drop an item, or disabling one person while dealing with someone nearby. These are player-reported examples, not guarantees that every sedative or mission supports those effects.

The decision is about the outcome you want. If you want to incapacitate someone without killing them, a sedative fits that aim. If your plan depends on making a target ill or moving them, the discussion contrasts sedatives with emetics—but that is a player’s description, not a universal rule for every item or scenario.
The main drawback: the body may be found
A sedated person may remain where they fell. The original player in that discussion noted that an unconscious body could be discovered or revived. That makes a sedative less useful when the goal is to draw someone away and leave a target isolated: incapacitating a person is not the same as hiding them or creating a safe opportunity.

How the options differ at a high level
| Option | Broad purpose supported by the sources | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Sedative | Incapacitate without killing. | Whether a person is discovered, revived, or behaves in a particular way depends on the game, item, and situation. |
| Emetic | Induce illness; players describe using it to move a target or get a non-target out of the way. | The movement use is a player-reported scenario, not a rule established for every item or mission. |
| Lethal poison | Kill, according to the first-season HITMAN manual. | The cited manual describes the first season; it does not establish every current item-specific behavior. |
Which should you use?
- Choose a sedative when non-lethal incapacitation is the intended result.
- Consider an emetic when your plan relies on illness or movement, while checking the item description and circumstances.
- Do not assume an unconscious person will be concealed: account for where the body will end up and who might find it.
The available sources do not settle the exact behavior of every current sedative variant or mission in World of Assassination. The official manuals establish the broad non-lethal purpose; modern examples above come from a dated player discussion.
