Try changing the weather or time, summoning a named mob, giving yourself an item, or teleporting with a conditional /execute command. Commands can alter your world, but they require cheats or permission—and the examples below are Bedrock syntax unless noted.
Before you try a command
Commands are slash-prefixed instructions that can change gameplay, including the weather, time, location, inventory, and entities. Minecraft’s command guide explains how to use them.
Enable commands or get permission
In a Bedrock single-player world, turn on Allow Cheats in the world settings’ Game tab. In Java single-player, enable Allow Commands when creating the world. In multiplayer, you may need permission from the server or world owner.
Check syntax for your edition
The summon, give, and execute examples below use Bedrock syntax from Microsoft Learn. Java syntax can differ, and commands may also vary by game version or server setup. Check your edition’s command help and autocomplete before using an example.

In command documentation, angle brackets mark required arguments and square brackets mark optional ones. In Bedrock, coordinates use three space-separated values. A tilde (~) means the execution origin’s coordinate on that axis; for example, ~5 is five blocks from that origin. So ~ ~ ~ refers to the current position. Bedrock’s Introduction to Commands explains coordinates and autocomplete, and /help or /help <command> can show available commands and syntax.
Easy commands for changing the world
Set the weather
Use /weather clear for clear weather. Bedrock also documents /weather <clear|rain|thunder> [duration], where the duration is optional. See the Minecraft command guide and Microsoft’s Bedrock command introduction.

Give yourself an item
In Bedrock, /give @s diamond 1 gives one diamond to the executing player. Here, @s targets the command’s executor. Item IDs and command syntax may differ by edition or version; consult the Bedrock give command reference before adapting it.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Try a conditional command
Once you are comfortable with basic commands, Bedrock’s /execute can run an action for an entity and make it conditional on the situation. Microsoft’s documented example gives the executor a diamond if the block below is diamond ore:
/execute if block ~ ~-1 ~ diamond_ore run give @s diamond

Keep experiments safe in shared worlds
Commands can affect entities, game state, inventories, and player locations. A hostile mob summon or a command that moves other players can disrupt a shared world. Try unfamiliar commands in a copy or in a world where you have permission, and check the target and coordinates before running them.
