These are conditional recommendations, not results from controlled weapon tests. The GameFAQs assessments are community guide judgments, while PowerPyx offers a campaign strategy. Neither establishes a universal tier list or a definitive winner for versus play.
Why weapon class and distance matter
The GameFAQs guide frames pistols as backup or close-range choices, shotguns as close-range damage tools, and sniper rifles as precise long-range weapons. Those are typical roles, not hard rules. A weapon that performs well when you can control distance may be a poor fit when enemies are already close or ammunition is scarce.
- At close range: a shotgun can deliver substantial pressure, but consider how quickly it uses ammunition.
- At longer range: a precision weapon such as the Anti-Material Rifle can make use of its reach, provided you have time to aim and fire.
- Across changing encounters: the Tactical SMG’s balanced profile makes it the practical flexible pick, with weaker reliability at long range.

It is the strongest general-purpose recommendation in the available guide assessments, especially when encounters shift between ranges. Choose the Juggernaut for close-range pressure
The Juggernaut has a campaign recommendation from PowerPyx as a primary weapon, while the GameFAQs guide notes its close-range potency and fast ammunition consumption. It makes sense when you expect close engagements and can manage the supply; it is less attractive if sustained fire is likely to leave you short.
Choose the Riot Gun for a balanced shotgun profile
The GameFAQs guide describes the Riot Gun as blending firepower, speed, range, and accuracy. That makes it an alternative for players who want a shotgun without choosing solely for the Juggernaut’s close-range punch. The guide does not provide controlled comparative results establishing which shotgun wins in every situation.

When the Anti-Material Rifle is the better pick
Use the Anti-Material Rifle when distance and time to aim let its per-shot strength and range matter. The GameFAQs guide lists its damage as 10 on that guide’s in-game stat scale; this is not a real-world measurement or an independently tested comparison. Its very slow firing and poor close-range handling make it a specialist choice, not the safest all-purpose weapon.
A campaign loadout: Juggernaut and Samurai Edge
PowerPyx recommends the Juggernaut as the primary and the Samurai Edge as a secondary for medium- to long-range soldiers. The combination covers two different situations: the shotgun for close pressure and the sidearm for ranged targets. Treat it as one walkthrough’s campaign strategy, rather than a claim that it is best for all missions, characters, or versus matches.

Neither source establishes a tested universal ranking across modes, maps, or player styles. For your own choice, weigh encounter range, per-shot damage, firing speed, accuracy and stability, magazine capacity, and how quickly the weapon consumes ammunition.

Capcom’s May 2, 2012 announcement listed eight special weapons in the Raccoon City Weapon Stash: Combat Shotgun, Anti-Material Rifle, Machine Pistol, Cowboy Shotgun, Perforator, Combat SMG, Matilda, and Classic Launcher. The announcement also grouped them into the Power Weapons Pack (Combat Shotgun and Anti-Material Rifle), Renegade Weapons Pack (Machine Pistol and Cowboy Shotgun), Elite Weapons Pack (Perforator and Combat SMG), and Classic Weapons Pack (Classic Launcher and Matilda).
