This fan-oriented list ranks fully evolved Fire-type species by broad battle usefulness—not by a verified current stat table or tournament results. Legendary status and alternate battle forms are treated separately, and a different ruleset can change the order.
How to read this ranking
“Strongest” can mean raw stats, single-player usefulness, competitive performance, durability or damage in one attack. Pokémon Support notes that video-game strength depends substantially on training and recommends thinking about the challenge ahead. For the card game, it says the answer depends on what a player values, such as HP or the ability to deal high damage in one attack. Pokémon Support’s guidance, updated January 30, 2026, is a useful reminder that a ranking needs a stated measure.

The ten entries below are an editorial overview of fully evolved species, balancing their general battle roles and versatility rather than claiming an objectively proven order. The available official sources do not supply a complete, comparable current stat table or competitive results for these candidates. Game generation, moves, abilities, team role and opponent can all move a species up or down. Legendary Pokémon and special battle forms are discussed separately rather than mixed into the ranking.
Top 10 strongest fully evolved Fire-type Pokémon
-
Charizard
Charizard is a flexible Fire/Flying choice with a broad role across many games, but its name recognition is not proof that it is the strongest. Its dual typing creates clear vulnerabilities: the official Pokédex entry lists Water, Electric and Rock as weaknesses. In particular, Rock attacks are a major matchup concern. Charizard makes this list for versatility and accessibility, not because it wins every matchup.

Arcanine
Arcanine is a fully evolved Fire-type option for players who value a straightforward all-rounder. Its suitability depends on the game’s available moves and abilities, as well as whether the team needs more offense, speed or support. Check its entry and move availability in the specific game before treating it as a set-and-forget choice.
-
Infernape
Infernape’s Fire/Fighting typing gives it a different offensive profile from a pure Fire-type. That can help with coverage, but it also changes the matchups it must handle. Consider it when the team can use its mixed offensive role; don’t assume the extra type is an advantage in every fight.
-
Blaziken
Blaziken combines Fire and Fighting, making it an offensive candidate whose value can hinge on the game’s ability and battle rules. Its standing is especially sensitive to whether a particular game or format permits an alternate battle form. The base species and a temporary or special form should not be treated as interchangeable entries.
-
Volcarona
Volcarona is a Fire/Bug species that can fill a special-attacking role. As with other dual types, its strengths and risks are matchup-dependent; team support and the opponent’s coverage matter. It may suit a player building around special offense better than one looking for a durable general-purpose answer.

Chandelure
Chandelure’s Fire/Ghost typing gives it a distinctive role rather than making it a universal upgrade over other Fire-types. Its usefulness rests on the moves and mechanics available in the game at hand. Include it when its particular coverage and role fit the team, not simply because one stat or type combination sounds powerful.
-
Typhlosion
Typhlosion is a pure Fire-type option whose value can depend heavily on the generation and version being played. Some games also distinguish forms, so compare the form actually available under your rules rather than assuming all Typhlosion entries perform alike.

- The Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Pitch Black expansion features over 115 cards to collect.

-
Hisuian Arcanine
Hisuian Arcanine adds Rock to Arcanine’s Fire typing, changing both its coverage and its matchup profile. It is a separate form for comparison purposes, not a second independent species that should automatically be ranked above or below standard Arcanine. Confirm that the form is available and eligible in your game or format.
-
Magmortar
Magmortar is a fully evolved pure Fire-type that can appeal to players seeking a dedicated offensive role. Its practical strength depends on the move options and battle system in the game being played. A raw-stat comparison alone would not capture whether it fits a particular team or challenge.

Houndoom
Houndoom’s Fire/Dark typing can provide useful coverage, while also giving it a different set of matchup considerations from a pure Fire-type. It rounds out the list as a role-specific option; it is not a claim that Houndoom outranks every other fully evolved Fire-type in every game.
Where legendary Pokémon and special forms fit
Legendary Fire-types such as Ho-Oh and Reshiram belong in a separate comparison if the question is specifically about legendary Pokémon. Their status alone does not settle which one is strongest under a particular ruleset. Similarly, temporary or alternate battle forms can alter a Pokémon’s capabilities; ranking those forms alongside base species without labeling them would mix different comparison units.
For a strict answer, first name the game and format, then decide whether the comparison includes legendary species and special forms. The official Pokémon Pokédex offers type-filtered discovery and National Pokédex listings, making it a starting point for checking candidates and their types. It does not by itself establish a competitive ranking.
Choose by the battle you need to win
- For a story playthrough: Prioritize a Pokémon you can obtain, train and support with the moves available in that game.
- For a competitive format: Set the exact format and eligible forms first; then compare current moves, abilities, team roles and matchups for that ruleset.
- For raw stats: Use a complete, comparable stat table for the specific forms being ranked. A list based on overall usefulness is not a base-stat ranking.
- For a matchup: Check the opponent’s typing and likely attacks. Charizard, for example, is Fire/Flying and has Water, Electric and Rock weaknesses according to its official Pokédex entry.
- For the trading-card game: Compare the specific cards and their HP, attacks and role in a deck. A Pokémon species’ video-game reputation does not determine the strongest TCG card.
Video-game strength is not TCG card strength
The Pokémon Trading Card Game uses individual cards, not a single transferable ranking of species. A card’s HP or damage output may matter, but those values are only part of how it functions in a deck and under the rules being played. The official Pokémon TCG card database is the appropriate place to check specific cards. Its HeartGold & SoulSilver Card-Dex PDF is an archived set resource, not evidence of current availability or a current competitive deck.
