Square Enix initially said the update would arrive in mid-November, then confirmed a November 12, 2024 release. Its headline addition was Echoes of Vana’diel, a 24-player alliance-raid series that began with Jeuno: The First Walk.
What was the headline addition?
Echoes of Vana’diel brought FINAL FANTASY XIV and FINAL FANTASY XI together in a new 24-player alliance-raid series. Its first chapter, Jeuno: The First Walk, was part of Patch 7.1 itself—not one of the later 7.x releases. Square Enix’s October 1, 2024 announcement introduced the update, and its November 6 follow-up confirmed the release date and content details.

| Patch | Scheduled content |
|---|---|
| 7.11 | Futures Rewritten (Ultimate) |
| 7.15 | Nitowikwe custom deliveries, Hildibrand quests and Wachumeqimeqi quests |
| One week after 7.15 | The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic), a high-difficulty alliance-raid encounter |

This timing matters when interpreting the initial feature list: Patch 7.1 was the start of a sequence of updates, not the release date for every named addition.
What did Square Enix say about the player base?
In its October 1, 2024 announcement, Square Enix reported more than 30 million total registered players. That is a cumulative registered-player figure reported by the publisher in 2024, not a current active-player count.
