The update added Collector and Social leaderboards alongside the existing gameplay-focused Booty leaderboard, expanded crafting and progression, and announced a staking-duration multiplier. The season is now historical: official documentation says BOOTY Points Season 3 concluded on March 31, and the official Pirate Nation Classic site says Classic has closed.
What changed in Pirate Nation Season 3?
GamesBeat reported on November 13, 2024, that Season 3 would launch the following day. The update broadened what players could compete over: gameplay, asset collecting, and community activity each had a leaderboard. It also expanded crafting and progression. GamesBeat’s launch coverage described the announcement and its features.
Three leaderboard categories

Later official documentation labels the categories Gameplay, Collecting, and Social. It describes BOOTY Points as onchain, soulbound rewards for gameplay quests, held in a player’s game inventory and not buyable, sellable, or tradable. Crafting and progression
The launch report said crafting was expanded with new in-game items. It also said the level cap increased to 35 for Pirates and five for Ships. These are details of the 2024 launch announcement, not confirmation that those features or progression systems remain available today.

Staking and points
Proof of Play’s 2024 announcement described an incrementing multiplier for players who staked tokens for longer periods. It said Proof of Play points would contribute to in-game rewards and future benefits. That description is distinct from the official documentation’s BOOTY Points: the reviewed material does not establish current staking terms, current rewards, or that BOOTY Points were transferable.
What did Proof of Play say about the game’s growth?
GamesBeat reported in 2024 that Pirate Nation had driven more than 300 million onchain transactions across Proof of Play’s Apex and Boss chains since Season 2 launched. The outlet also reported that the active player base had more than doubled since Season 1, while noting that the company did not disclose its user count. These are historical figures attributed to Proof of Play through GamesBeat, not current activity numbers or an absolute player count. GamesBeat

CEO Amitt Mahajan described the company’s ambition this way: “With the launch of Season 3, we’re moving closer to realizing our vision for Proof of Play as an advanced onchain infrastructure that supports millions of gamers.” That is a statement of company vision, not evidence that Pirate Nation had millions of players.
Is Pirate Nation still playable?
The official Pirate Nation Classic landing page says, “Pirate Nation Classic has officially closed,” and points visitors toward Pirate Nation Arcade on Abstract. That confirms the closure of Classic, but the page does not give a closure date or establish whether Arcade is currently operating or what happened to every related asset and service. Older game documentation describes an experience built around NFTs and blockchain services, but those pages should not be treated as current setup instructions. It says at least one Pirate was needed to play; a Founder’s Pirate lived on Ethereum, while gameplay and free Pirate NFTs used Proof of Play’s Apex and Boss chains. A code could be used to mint a free Pirate NFT, and the documentation identified bridge services for moving ETH. Official onboarding documentation
The game guide also described Founder’s Pirates as purchasable through digital NFT marketplaces and said a one-time code could provide a Pirate with fewer advantages. In its documented mechanics, captains received a 10% quest XP bonus; Rum restored energy but added Hangover; and higher-level Pirates could access quests with better rewards and receive stat boosts. Don’t confuse the different Season 3 references
“Season 3” in the November 2024 launch coverage refers to the overall game-season update, while BOOTY Points Season 3 is the points program that official documentation says concluded on March 31. A separate official event, Legendary Depths III, also used a season-like numbered label: it was described as a two-week event running from July 22 at 00:00 UTC to August 6 at 00:00 UTC. Its rules said it had no token rewards and required a Founder’s Pirate or active VIP Pass to earn rewards. That event should not be mistaken for either the game’s 2024 Season 3 launch or BOOTY Points Season 3. Official Legendary Depths III event page
