The programming language used for the original Plants vs. Zombies has not been reliably confirmed by the available sources. PopCap Framework is identified as the game’s engine or framework, but that does not identify the language used to write it.
What is confirmed about the original game?
Reference material identifies PopCap’s own PopCap Framework as the engine or framework used for the original Plants vs. Zombies. An engine or framework is the technology used to build and run a game; it is not, by itself, a programming language. The reference does not name the language. Wikipedia’s overview of the game identifies the framework but does not settle the language question.
A 2009 development interview with PopCap developer George Fan discusses making the game but does not identify its programming language. The interview therefore offers no basis for naming a specific language.
Does the C# and C++ discussion prove the original language?
No. A PopCap interview about games on Windows Phone discusses differences between C# and C++ in the context of substantial reengineering for that platform. It does not say that the original game was written in either language. The Windows Central interview supports a statement about the porting work, not a definitive attribution for the original release.
