Disney’s best-known in-game news event was its 2024 D23 showcase, streamed inside Fortnite on an interactive island called Disney Horizons Live. The presentation brought announcements and previews from Disney Animation, Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel into the game. It was a special watch-party event—not the larger, persistent Disney-Epic universe announced separately in February 2024.
What happened at Disney’s 2024 D23 event in Fortnite?
Disney streamed its D23 presentation on Disney Horizons Live, a social island made with Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). Players could watch the showcase and take part in the island through cheers, mini-games and visual effects. Executives from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios appeared in the presentation. Disney’s event recap described the island as an interactive watch party.

The presentation mixed game-content reveals with previews from Disney’s film and entertainment brands:
- Disney Villains: Maleficent, Cruella de Vil and Captain Hook were announced as upcoming Fortnite additions.
- Pixar: The company previewed content based on The Incredibles.
- Star Wars: Lucasfilm previewed IG-11, Moff Gideon and a Grogu Dynamic Back Bling.
- Marvel: Kevin Feige revealed Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4: Absolute Doom, featuring Doctor Doom. Disney said the season would launch on August 16, 2024.
The D23 island was available through August 16, 2024, and Disney listed island code 7908-6413-2516 at the time. That is historical event information, not confirmation that the island or code remains available.

How was the D23 island different from the Disney-Epic universe?
Epic announced a broader Disney collaboration on February 7, 2024. The companies described a planned, open and persistent social universe connected to Fortnite, powered by Unreal Engine and featuring Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and more. The proposed experience was intended to let fans play, watch, shop, create and share. Disney announced a $1.5 billion investment for an equity stake in Epic Games, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Epic’s announcement sets out the collaboration.
That long-term project should not be confused with Disney Horizons Live. The D23 island was a limited event experience for watching a presentation; the persistent universe was a much broader planned undertaking. In its August 2024 recap, Disney said the larger experience was still a few years away.

Which later Disney-Fortnite events are separate from D23?
Disney and Epic continued to announce distinct Fortnite activations. Their formats and audiences differ, so a later event should not be mistaken for a return of the 2024 D23 watch party.
| Date | Franchise and format | What players or visitors could do | Status or limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fall 2025 season; figures reported in 2026 | The Simpsons season and creator program | Disney said more than 80 million players spent 780 million hours in the Fortnite | The Simpsons season. Separately, it announced that The Simpsons would join Fortnite’s IP Partner Program, with a toolkit for developers planned for later in 2026. | The player and hours figures are Disney-reported for the fall 2025 season, not independently audited figures in the cited announcement. Disney also reported nearly 8 million players entered community-built Star Wars islands during the toolkit’s first 72 hours. Disney’s 2026 announcement. |
| May 2026 | The Mandalorian and Grogu watch-party island | Disney announced a Star Wars island with a 10-minute film preview and a special message from director Jon Favreau ahead of the movie’s May 22 theatrical release. | A separate promotional activation, not the D23 2024 event. |
| August 16, 2026 | Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run park tie-in and Smugglers Gambit island | Disney connected the attraction at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort with a Fortnite island. Eligible riders could link MyDisney and Epic accounts for an in-game outfit and other rewards. | Disney said the experience was included with valid park admission; eligibility applied to account-linked rewards. Fortnite was described as free to download. Disney’s announcement. |
| September 22–October 5, 2026 | Toy Story 5: The Great Toy Rescue | An island based on Bonnie’s imagination connected with participating creator-made islands. | The published run ended October 5, 2026. Disney’s announcement. |
Can you still claim a Disney reward in Fortnite?
When checked on October 8, 2026, Fortnite’s Disney page listed Smugglers Gambit and said eligible players could link accounts to unlock the Carbonite Fishstick Backbling through October 31, 2026. The deadline and eligibility rules are time-sensitive; check the page before linking accounts or expecting a reward.

Why Disney is using Fortnite for announcements
The D23 event used Fortnite as a place to watch together and interact, while later projects have used the platform for different purposes: branded islands, creator-made experiences and links between a theme-park attraction and a game. The formats range from a one-off presentation to tools intended for developers. Disney’s figures for player participation indicate the scale it reported for some activations, but they do not establish that every Disney project in Fortnite has the same audience or is available in the same way.
