In Escape from Tarkov, armbands are visual identification items: they can help players distinguish friend from foe or signal status, and squads may use a matching design as a recognition cue. They do not function as a safety system, and the available sources do not establish that they prevent friendly fire or provide protection.
What armbands are for
The community-maintained Escape from Tarkov Wiki armbands reference describes them as items used to distinguish friend from foe and show status. In practice, a color or design can serve as a visual cue for teammates, but another player still has to recognize and interpret it. An armband does not automatically identify its wearer as friendly.
The Blue armband item page describes it as “A blue identification armband.” That wording supports its identification role, not a gameplay bonus.
Do armbands give protection or other bonuses?
The sources reviewed do not establish that armbands reduce damage, protect the wearer, or prevent friendly fire. Their descriptions—including humorous text on prayer-themed variants—should be treated as flavor text, not proof of a mechanical effect. A player discussion about those items includes community testimony that they have no effects, but it is not official confirmation.

Where armbands fit in your equipment
The Blue armband item entry lists a dedicated Armband slot, a weight of 0.05 kg, and a 1×1 grid. These are item-page details, not evidence of a combat advantage. The same community wiki lists Ragman at loyalty level 1 as a source for the Blue armband.
Do armbands stay with you after death?
The general armbands reference says they are not lootable and persist upon death. That is the community wiki’s description of the mechanic; behavior may change between game updates, so check current in-game information if the outcome matters to a loadout decision.

How to think about different armband colors
For standard colors such as White, Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, the supported distinction is visual appearance and potential recognition value—not defensive effectiveness. A community gear table lists standard colors and trader information, but its armband entries show 2025 update dates. Treat those listings as a snapshot rather than a guarantee of current availability or price.
If choosing one for a squad, agree on a color or design before deploying and remember that visibility and recognition depend on the situation. Do not assume an unfamiliar player wearing the same color is on your team.

What to verify in the current game
- Check the current item description and trader inventory for availability; community listings can become outdated after patches.
- Do not rely on an armband as protection or as an automatic teammate marker.
- Use current in-game data or an official Battlestate Games source to confirm any claimed effect or changed behavior.
