Librarian villagers buy paper and books for emeralds, and sell enchanted books, bookshelves and other items. Their available offers expand as they gain levels; the exact trades can vary with edition, version and experimental settings.
How librarian trades work
A librarian’s offers are tied to villager level, so a novice does not have the full selection. The standard trade table includes trades that buy items from the player and trades that sell items for emeralds. Enchanted books are the signature offer: a librarian can sell one for emeralds and a book. Minecraft Wiki’s trading table organizes these offers by level.

Librarian trades by level
These are examples from the standard trade table, not a guarantee that every librarian will present every listed offer. Exact selection and availability should be checked in your edition and version.

The standard table includes other goods as well as these examples. Depending on the level and offer, librarians may sell lanterns, glass, clocks and compasses. The table’s listed paper trade is 24 paper for one emerald; that is an in-game trade value, not a real-world statistic.

What to know about enchanted books
When a librarian offers an enchanted book, you pay emeralds and provide a book. You can apply the enchantment to a compatible item at an anvil by combining the item and enchanted book. Microsoft’s introduction to enchantments describes this anvil use.
Why offers may differ between worlds
Biome-dependent enchanted-book offers appear in a separate table on the Minecraft Wiki. That does not establish that biome restrictions apply in every edition or world. Minecraft’s official Bedrock 1.20.30 update notes described villager trade rebalance changes as experimental in that rollout; that historical description does not establish their current status across versions. Check your game’s edition, version and experimental settings before relying on a particular biome-based offer.

Bedrock reference data
Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock stable vanilla behavior-pack trade reference includes librarian enchanted-book trades priced with emeralds and a book, as well as sample trades involving clocks, glass and name tags. This is Bedrock-specific reference data and does not, by itself, prove that Java Edition has identical offers.
