In most games, god mode is a cheat, console command or settings option that stops the player character from taking some or most damage. It is not a standard feature: what it blocks, how you switch it on, and whether it carries side effects such as disabled achievements all depend on the individual game and platform. Treat “invincible” as a claim to check, not a default assumption.
What god mode usually does
The common meaning is a mode that makes the player character resistant or immune to damage, and in some games to death from ordinary attacks. Sources describing individual titles use the same basic idea, but each game draws its own boundaries around it. Some block only enemy attacks, some also block explosions and falls, and some add a separate cheat that changes health display or instant-kill handling.
What it does not guarantee
Damage protection is one effect. Other effects such as unlimited resources, extra abilities or a changed difficulty are separate and may or may not come with the mode. Do not assume a god-mode command also means immortality in every sense.
Exceptions are common. The ARK community wiki describes its god command as protecting the character against attacks, explosions and falls, but not against drowning. Drowning remains a cause of death unless InfiniteStats is also enabled. Protection can therefore be partial even when the mode is on.

- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
The name is also no guarantee that the feature exists. Bohemia Interactive’s single-player FAQ for Operation Flashpoint says the game has some cheats but no invincible god-mode cheat. A game can have cheat codes and still lack this one.
How it is turned on, by game
There is no cross-game activation method. The examples below show how different the process can be. They are not instructions for other titles, and codes or commands from one game should not be tried in another.

Max Payne 2 on PC
- Start the PC version with the -developer command-line option.
- Open the in-game console.
- Type god to enable God Mode, and mortal to turn it off again.
7 Days to Die
The community wiki describes this as a settings choice rather than a typed code. Enable Cheat Mode in the game’s options, then use the Q key to toggle God mode. Because the source describes it as a settings option, check the current menu labels after any update.
Side effects: achievements and progress
Turning on a built-in cheat can change what the game records. Blizzard’s StarCraft II article warns that using the listed codes prevents additional achievement gains until a new campaign is started or a save made before the first cheat is loaded. The same article separates these deliberately included single-player codes from third-party hacks and says the built-in codes will not flag an account for suspension. That statement applies to the official StarCraft II codes described there. It does not establish how other games handle achievements, and it does not cover third-party tools.
