If Steam shows a Suspicious Content account alert, Steam Support has classified something posted or upvoted by your account as suspicious. The alert should identify or link to the content it concerns, so read that reference first. If you do not recognize the activity, treat your account as potentially compromised and secure it before contacting Support.
What Steam’s Suspicious Content account alert means
Steam says the alert is about specific content posted or upvoted by the account. Suspicious material can include links or messages associated with account theft, scams, phishing, or other malicious or illegal activity. The alert is not, by itself, a general explanation of every kind of Steam restriction; its text should point to the item Steam reviewed. Steam’s account-alert help page explains the alert and its consequences.
Steam says repeat infractions involving malicious content may lead to a permanent ban from Steam Community features. If the screen instead describes a trade restriction or another kind of lock, follow that specific notice: the cause and resolution steps may differ.
What to do if you do not recognize the activity
If the referenced post or vote was not yours, Steam says someone with access to the account may have made it. Secure the account and devices before requesting recovery:

- Review Authorized Devices. In Steam account security settings, check which devices are authorized. If you see an unfamiliar device, sign out of all devices.
- Change your Steam password. Use a new password you do not use on other accounts.
- Secure your linked email and associated accounts. Change the email password if needed and check their security, since access to your email can undermine Steam account protection.
- Scan the computer for malware. Steam’s recovery guidance includes checking the computer used to access the account.
- Contact Steam Support for account recovery and removal of the lock. Use the official Support site after completing the security steps; recovery is handled through Support.
Steam Guard adds a login-verification layer through email or the Steam Mobile app, but it does not replace securing the email account linked to Steam. See Steam’s account security recommendations.
What to do if you recognize the content or think the alert is mistaken
Review Steam’s Online Conduct Agreement and Community Rules & Guidelines. Then contact Steam Support to discuss restoring access to Community features. Support is the official route for a dispute; do not assume that access will automatically be restored.

How to spot a fake Steam Support message
A scammer may claim that your account was reported or will be banned, then try to move you into a conversation outside official Support. Steam says an alert directing you to speak with an agent via Steam Chat, Discord, email, or anywhere other than help.steampowered.com is fake. Do not share your password or Steam Guard code. Read Steam’s guidance on scam messages and handle account issues through the official Support site.
