Comparing the two sprites side by side is the clearest way to spot the difference; in Pokémon GO, the shiny icon above CP confirms a shiny encounter.
How shiny Bulbasaur differs from regular Bulbasaur
Shiny Pokémon are alternate-color versions of their usual forms. Bulbasaur’s palette shift is subtle, so color can be easy to miss when you see it on its own. Pokémon Database’s shiny sprite index displays regular and shiny sprites for comparison. Look at both under the same image conditions rather than relying on a precise written color description: the available references do not specify exact hues or color values.
Pokémon Database’s Pokémon GO shiny reference also lists Bulbasaur’s shiny form.
How to confirm shiny Bulbasaur in Pokémon GO
In Pokémon GO, look for the shiny icon above the Pokémon’s CP. Niantic’s Shiny Pokémon help page identifies that icon as the indicator of a shiny encounter. Use it to confirm the Pokémon’s status instead of relying on the subtle color difference alone.

Does shiny Bulbasaur have different stats?
The shiny distinction described in these references is visual: it is a coloration variant. The color change itself does not make Bulbasaur stronger.
Can you encounter shiny Bulbasaur in Pokémon GO?
Niantic says shiny encounters can come from contexts such as wild encounters, raids, research rewards, and other rewards, while some shiny forms are event-limited. Availability and opportunities depend on the game and event, so an old event announcement is not a promise of a current encounter.
