A padlock beside a PS5 game means the console cannot currently verify or grant access to it for the account and console in use. It can point to a license or network problem, but the icon alone does not identify the cause or mean the game was deleted or permanently lost. Start by checking who owns the game and whether the entitlement is still valid, then work through the console’s sharing, connection and license settings.
What the PS5 padlock means
Sony says a padlock next to a game could mean there is a problem with its license. Its guidance on Console Sharing and Offline Play also identifies license and network issues as possible causes. The symbol is an access warning, not a complete diagnosis: it does not prove that a purchase disappeared or that the game is gone for good.
Sony’s Singapore support page adds that when the padlock covers the whole game image, a Family Manager may be able to amend the restriction. That is regional guidance, not a universal rule for interpreting every padlock display.
Check why you are entitled to play the game
If you bought it
Confirm that the PS5 is signed in to the PlayStation account used to buy the game. Check that the transaction completed in that account’s transaction history. A game purchased by a different account may depend on that account’s sharing settings on this console.

If you got it through PlayStation Plus
Check that the subscription is active and that the game remains available in the relevant PlayStation Plus selection. License restoration is a separate troubleshooting step; Sony says the padlock case in its guidance is not caused by a PlayStation Plus subscription expiring. That does not make subscription status or catalog availability irrelevant to whether you can play a Plus game.
If someone else owns it
The owning account must have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled on this PS5 for other users of the console to play that account’s purchased and downloaded games. Sony allows this setting on one PS5 at a time for an account.

Work through these fixes in order
- Verify the account and purchase. Sign in to the account that bought the game and confirm the transaction completed.
- Check subscription entitlement. For a PlayStation Plus game, confirm the subscription is active and the title is still available in the relevant selection.
- Check Console Sharing and Offline Play. On the account that owns the game, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play. Enable it on this PS5 if appropriate. An account can have this enabled on only one PS5 at a time.
- Consider family restrictions. If the lock covers the whole game image, ask the Family Manager to check restrictions. The whole-image detail comes from Sony’s Singapore support guidance.
- Check PlayStation Network and system software. Look at PSN service status; if Sony reports an issue, wait for service to recover. Install the latest PS5 system software.
- Restore licenses. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, then select the relevant licenses. You can also highlight the game on Home or in Game Library, press Options, and choose Restore License. Sony says this does not affect your data.
- Use Safe Mode if the lock remains. Sony’s locked-download troubleshooting guidance includes Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. If the problem persists, contact PlayStation Support and provide any error code and the steps that reproduce the issue.
When Console Sharing is the issue
Sony says Console Sharing and Offline Play is automatically allowed on the first PS5 used to sign in to PlayStation. To turn it on for a different PS5, use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play on the owning account. When enabled, other users of that console can play the owner’s purchased and downloaded games and media offline, and use some PlayStation Plus benefits. Enabling it on another PS5 for the same account means the previous PS5 no longer has that account’s sharing setting enabled.
