You need a VR headset, its tracked motion controllers and a digital copy of Beat Saber. You do not need a gaming PC if you play on a supported standalone Meta Quest headset. A PC setup also needs a compatible Windows PC and SteamVR; playing on PS5 requires PS VR2 and PS VR2 Sense controllers.
Choose a platform before buying equipment
The right setup depends mainly on what compatible hardware you already own, which store you want to use and whether you want ongoing platform content and multiplayer. Beat Saber is a VR game, so a regular monitor, keyboard or gamepad cannot replace the headset and tracked controllers.

What you need for each setup
Standalone Meta Quest
Meta lists Beat Saber as compatible with Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest Pro and Quest 2, with controllers as the supported input and standing and roomscale play modes. The headset runs the game itself, so this is the simplest route if you do not have a gaming PC. Check the Meta Store listing for current device compatibility.
The Quest 3S package includes the headset, two Touch Plus controllers with wrist straps, AA batteries, a charging cable and a power adapter, according to Meta’s hardware page. The game is a separate digital purchase; the Meta listing displayed $19.99 when accessed October 8, 2026, but store prices can change and vary by region.

Quest 2 is listed as compatible, but avoid buying a Quest 1 specifically for the game: Beat Games ended its support on November 2, 2024. It remains playable there, but no longer receives updates or customer support, and multiplayer has stopped (Beat Games FAQ).
PC VR through Steam
A Steam setup needs more than a Windows computer: you also need a compatible VR headset, tracked controllers and SteamVR. Steam labels Beat Saber “VR Only” and lists SteamVR as its VR runtime. Its published minimums are Windows 10/11 64-bit, an Intel Core i5 Sandy Bridge or equivalent processor, 4 GB RAM, an Nvidia GTX 960 or equivalent graphics card, DirectX 11 and 200 MB of available storage. These are the Steam listing’s minimum requirements, not a guarantee that every PC/headset combination will work smoothly; confirm headset compatibility before buying.

This route makes most sense if you already own a capable gaming PC or specifically want the Steam version. A basic laptop or desktop does not qualify just because it runs Windows.
PS5 with PS VR2
For PS5, PlayStation lists PS VR2 as required and PS VR2 Sense controllers as the input. Its store page says roomscale PS VR2 games need a minimum 2 m × 2 m (6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in) play area. Check the PlayStation Store listing for the current platform details.

PlayStation also lists a legacy PS VR version for PS5. Using the original PS VR headset on PS5 requires a camera adaptor, which PlayStation says is available at no purchase cost. This is a legacy-content option, not the best choice if ongoing Beat Saber updates or multiplayer are important: Beat Games says no new content has been released for PS4/PS5 since June 18, 2025, and multiplayer became unavailable on those platforms on February 26, 2026. Previously purchased content remains playable, and eligible songs and packs released before the cutoff remain purchasable, according to the official FAQ.
Required equipment versus optional accessories
Required
- A supported VR headset.
- The platform’s tracked motion controllers.
- A digital copy of Beat Saber from the storefront for the platform you plan to use.
- For PC VR, a PC meeting the game’s published minimum requirements and SteamVR.
- For PS VR2 roomscale play, the minimum play area specified by PlayStation.
Optional
- A more comfortable head strap or replacement facial interface. These may improve fit but are not needed to play.
- Rechargeable AA batteries for compatible Quest controllers. Beat Games suggests changing controller batteries as a troubleshooting step if tracking is unreliable; they are not a special Beat Saber requirement.
Beat Saber has no physical edition. Beat Games says it does not have one and does not plan to make one, so buy the digital version from the store for your chosen platform (official FAQ).

Will one purchase work across platforms?
Beat Saber supports cross-buy within the Meta family of headsets, but Beat Games says cross-buy between Meta Quest, Steam and PS VR is not available. Choose the storefront deliberately: a purchase on one of those platforms should not be assumed to transfer to another (official FAQ).
For current compatibility, check the relevant storefront before purchase: Meta for Quest, Steam for PC, and PlayStation for PS5/PS VR2. Device support and store details can change.
