Fortnite kept evolving after Apple removed it from the iPhone App Store in August 2020. The biggest change was structural: by late 2023, Fortnite had grown beyond Battle Royale into a collection of first-party experiences, and Epic later described it as including thousands of creator-made islands. This is a retrospective on the major shifts and representative examples—not a complete list of every item, balance change, collaboration, or season.
What the iPhone ban did—and did not—stop
Epic’s September 2020 court filing says Apple terminated the developer account used to submit Fortnite on August 28, 2020. According to Epic’s filing, Fortnite then became unavailable on iOS for new downloads, redownloads, and updates through that account. That filing is Epic’s position in litigation, not a neutral court finding.
The removal was a distribution and policy dispute, not a halt to Fortnite’s development. The official update archive shows that the game continued receiving updates and events around that period, including Chapter 2 Season 4 and Marvel-themed content in September and October 2020. Those are examples, not a complete account of what released.
Fortnite expanded into a collection of experiences
In a December 2023 update, Epic discussed improvements across four experiences: Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival. By October 2024, Epic was also describing Fortnite as a platform with thousands of creator-made islands. The result was a wider mix of ways to play than the original Battle Royale focus.

| LEGO Fortnite Brick Life | Social roleplay | Epic announced it as a separate LEGO social roleplay experience for December 12, 2024. |
The listed improvements are examples from Epic’s update, not an exhaustive list of launch features or later changes. Creator-made islands also differ from the named first-party experiences: they are built by creators rather than being one single mode with a fixed activity.
LEGO Fortnite grew beyond its original survival-crafting experience
In December 2024, Epic renamed LEGO Fortnite to LEGO Fortnite Odyssey and introduced the Storm Chasers update. Epic described the update as adding the Storm King, new foes, dungeons, and crafting changes. The same month, it announced LEGO Fortnite Brick Life, a separate social roleplay experience. Together, the changes broadened the LEGO area from its survival-and-crafting identity into more than one kind of play.
Progression began connecting different parts of Fortnite
In October 2024, Epic announced a staged change to pass progression: XP earned in any Fortnite experience would progress active passes. The Music Pass change was scheduled for November 2, 2024, followed by the LEGO Pass and Battle Pass currency changes on December 1, 2024. Epic also said premium access to each pass would still require its corresponding purchase.
That announcement describes the rollout Epic planned at the time; it does not establish the rules for every later or currently active pass. Check the terms shown for the specific pass you want to progress.

New seasons and modes kept arriving in 2025 and 2026
Epic’s 2025 and 2026 news archive shows continued seasons, events, modes, and collaborations. For one dated example, Epic’s August 2026 Chapter 7 Season 4 announcement described Override mechanics, new Sprites, a Sprite Garden mode, and themed items and collaborations. Seasonal content changes, so a specific item or feature should be tied to the update that introduced it rather than treated as a permanent part of Fortnite.
Fortnite’s iPhone availability changed in stages
The iOS timeline is separate from the game’s content history. Epic announced a return in the European Union through its marketplace in 2024; the Associated Press reported the U.S. App Store return in May 2025; and Epic announced a worldwide App Store return in 2026. Epic’s current support information describes regional constraints and separate availability through the Epic Games Store on iOS, so those milestones should not be read as proof that every download route works in every country today.
If you want to install Fortnite on an iPhone or iPad, check Epic’s current iOS installation guide for your country and device. Epic’s support pages have described App Store availability in specified regions and Epic Games Store availability on mobile in the EU, Brazil, and Japan, subject to device limitations; the live guide is the better source for current eligibility. Epic says it does not officially support third-party software for installing Fortnite on iOS and advises users to use such tools at their own risk.
What “everything” can—and cannot—mean here
Fortnite’s official archive spans years of seasonal releases, events, collaborations, and gameplay changes. The major developments above show how the game expanded from a Battle Royale-centered title into a set of connected experiences, but they do not enumerate every addition. A literal item-by-item chronology would need to be built from the dated update archive, with each entry qualified by its release date and availability.
