- Prime members could stream selected Luna games, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, without an additional charge during the reported launch period.
- Luna GameNight was designed for casual groups and families, using players’ phones as controllers for games such as Angry Birds, Clue, and Ticket to Ride.
- Prime Gaming also offered selected PC games to claim and keep, including Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, XCOM 2, and Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: The Complete Edition.
- Cloud play did not require a dedicated console, but streamed games depended on a sufficiently fast, stable internet connection.

The reported upgrade was less about Amazon creating a traditional console and more about making several existing gaming benefits easier to find within one Prime-linked ecosystem. The three access models matter because “free with Prime” does not mean the same thing for every title.

|---|---|---|---|

Are Amazon Luna games free with Prime?
Selected Amazon Luna games were included for Prime members at no additional charge during the October 2025 launch period, but the reported examples should not be treated as a guaranteed August 2026 catalog. The coverage specifically named Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 as playable through Luna at that time.
Luna is a cloud-gaming service: remote, high-spec servers run the game and stream the result to your device. That means you generally avoid a large local download and do not need a dedicated gaming console for the supported experience. The launch report said Luna could be accessed through a web browser on a phone, smart TV, or laptop using an Amazon login. Read the original TechRadar launch report for the dated feature description.
Cloud gaming trades local hardware requirements for internet dependence. A slow or unstable connection can cause delayed controls, interruptions, or reduced image quality. The research does not provide a universal speed requirement, so the practical result will depend on the device, network, location, and current service conditions.

What is Amazon Luna GameNight?
Amazon Luna GameNight is a collection of easy-to-start social games built for parties, family gatherings, and other casual group sessions. GameNight titles use players’ phones as controllers, so a group can participate without bringing a separate gamepad for every person.

The phone-first design is the main distinction from conventional Luna play. Standard streamed games may be more comfortable with a keyboard and mouse or a traditional controller, while GameNight is intended to reduce setup friction for people who may not regularly play video games.
The launch coverage named Angry Birds, Clue, and Ticket to Ride as examples. It also highlighted Courtroom Chaos – Starring Snoop Dogg, described as an exclusive improvisational courtroom game in which players split into prosecution and defense teams and speak into their phones.
Which Amazon Prime games can I claim and keep?
Prime Gaming’s claimable PC offers are separate from Luna’s streamed catalog. At the time of the report, the Luna website reportedly placed these offers in a Claim section. Named examples included Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition, XCOM 2, and Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: The Complete Edition.

Claiming a PC game and streaming a Luna game are different transactions in practical terms. A claimed PC title is retained through its associated platform under the offer’s terms; a streamed Luna title is an access entitlement and should not automatically be described as permanently owned.

| Question | Luna streaming | Prime Gaming claim |
|---|---|---|
| Do I download the game? | Games are delivered from remote servers rather than installed locally. | The PC title is claimed through the relevant offer and may require the associated platform’s normal installation process. |
| Do I own the game permanently? | No ownership should be assumed from streaming access. | The named offers were presented as games members could claim and retain, subject to the offer’s terms. |
| What controls are expected? | Keyboard, mouse, or a compatible controller may suit conventional titles. | Controls depend on the PC platform and game. |
| What is the main limitation? | Availability and play quality depend on the current catalog, supported region, device, and internet connection. | Claim windows, platforms, and redemption terms can vary by offer. |
Can I play Luna without a console?
Yes. The reported Luna setup was designed to let Prime members stream games without buying a dedicated console, using a browser on devices such as a phone, smart TV, or laptop. A compatible device, an Amazon login, and a reliable internet connection are still necessary parts of the experience.
“Without a console” does not mean “without hardware.” You still need a supported screen or device, and conventional Luna games may be easier to control with a gamepad. GameNight is the exception highlighted by the report because participating phones function as controllers.
Do I need an Amazon Luna controller?
No, an Amazon Luna controller was optional for compatible Luna games, and GameNight was specifically designed around phone control. The launch coverage named the Amazon Luna Wireless Controller as a compatible option for players who prefer a more familiar console-style gamepad.

For a GameNight session, buying a controller for every participant would undermine the feature’s low-friction phone-based setup.

How much does Luna Premium cost?
The October 2025 report listed Luna Premium at $9.99 per month in the United States and £8.99 per month in the United Kingdom. Those figures are historical launch-period prices attributed to Amazon and TechRadar in 2025, not verified current prices, so check Amazon’s current Luna information before treating them as available today.
Luna Premium was presented as a separately priced tier alongside the Prime-included benefits. The existence of a Premium tier means Prime access should not be read as unlimited access to every Luna game. Catalog eligibility, country, device support, and membership terms can affect what a Prime member can play.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Amazon Prime gaming upgrade worth it for families?
The upgrade is most compelling for households that already pay for Prime and want occasional gaming without purchasing a console. GameNight’s phone controls make the family and party use case especially straightforward, while claimable PC games add value for members who prefer downloadable titles they can retain.

Use this decision guide:
- Choose GameNight first if your priority is quick family or party play and participants do not own controllers.
- Try Luna streaming if you want to sample larger games without a console or lengthy download.
- Claim Prime Gaming PC offers if keeping a game matters more than immediate browser-based access.
- Consider a Luna controller only if conventional streamed games are your main interest; it is not required for GameNight.
- Check current Amazon listings and account pages before relying on a named game, price, device, or feature because the supplied reporting is dated October 30, 2025.
What should you check before playing?
- Confirm that your country and device currently support the Luna feature you want.
- Sign in with the Amazon account connected to your Prime membership.
- Look for the current Luna catalog and the website’s Claim section rather than assuming every reported launch title remains available.
- Test the internet connection on the device where you plan to stream.
- Choose phone control for GameNight, or pair a compatible controller, keyboard, or mouse for conventional Luna games.
- Check the offer terms to distinguish a game you can claim and retain from a title available only while streaming access lasts.
