What was in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 2025 roadmap?
Contemporaneous coverage described the roadmap as a plan for Q3 and Q4 2025. Its announced work fell into three broad areas: a technical engine update, changes to gameplay and the player experience, and expanded tools for mod creators.

Engine and performance work
GSC planned to update the game to Unreal Engine 5.5.4, with optimization, stability, and performance named as goals. Those are stated aims, not measured results; the roadmap coverage does not provide benchmarks demonstrating an improvement.
Gameplay and player-facing changes
The planned game updates included several systems and features:

- Technical improvements to A-Life, plus updates to NPC combat.
- Changes to mutant combat and balance, as well as new anomalies and a new weather scenario.
- A Master difficulty preset and an extended day/night cycle.
- Reworks to stash loot, stamina, and energy drinks.
- Immersive display mode and updates to player equipment and other interface elements.
- Restoration of local save backups, along with further optimization and fixes.
Zone Kit and modding tools
The roadmap also proposed Zone Kit improvements, including progression from Phase 1 to Phase 2, audio modding, narrative tools, better compatibility for mods that affect common systems, enhanced blueprint modification support, and technical improvements.
What does “From Old and New Friends” mean?
“NEW MISSIONS, FROM OLD AND NEW FRIENDS” was the roadmap’s wording for new missions. The contemporaneous reports cited below do not name the characters involved, explain the missions’ stories, or provide individual release dates. The phrase alone does not establish who these “friends” are, so their identities and roles remain unconfirmed here.

When was the Unreal Engine 5.5.4 update coming?
The roadmap placed its plans in the remainder of 2025, but the coverage reviewed did not give a confirmed release date for the engine update. It also noted that engine work could affect the timing of other updates. Insider Gaming reported GSC’s conditional caveat: “Mission targets may be moved from 2025 to later dates in case of Zone instability.” That means the roadmap was subject to schedule changes, not a guarantee that every listed item would arrive in 2025.
