Is the Avatar RPG canceled?
In June 2026, Shawn Kittelsen, Paramount Games Studio’s senior vice president and head of creative and production, told IGN that the project was not in production when the new iteration of Paramount Games began. Engadget’s report reproduced his remarks: “That’s a project that wasn’t in production when we came in,” and, “We didn’t start this iteration of Paramount Games until last fall, after the Paramount Skydance merger. So that game was not in production.”

That is the clearest public status description in the available reporting: the Saber-era project was not in production at the start of the new Paramount Games organization. It does not establish contract terms, provide a formal cancellation announcement, or explain the project’s disposition with Saber. No successor team or approved replacement has been confirmed.
Does that mean there will never be another AAA Avatar game?
No. Kittelsen said, “So doesn’t mean you won’t get a AAA Avatar game at some point, but it might come in a different iteration.” That leaves open a possibility, not a commitment: he did not say a new game had been greenlit, name a developer, or give a timetable.

When is the Avatar RPG coming out?

What can you play in the Avatar world now?
Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game is a tabletop roleplaying game set in the Avatar world, not the announced Saber and Paramount video game.
