Spoilers for Hades II. Zagreus is alive, but Chronos’s takeover leaves him among the members of the House of Hades caught up in the Titan’s war. The sequel follows his sister Melinoë as she tries to defeat Chronos and free her family. Zagreus’s role in the ending depends on which version of the game you mean: Supergiant added the true ending with v1.0, and later coverage reports that the post-launch ending was revised.
Where is Zagreus in Hades II?
Hades II is a direct sequel set after the events of the first Hades. Chronos, the Titan of Time, escapes imprisonment and attacks Olympus. In the upheaval, Zagreus and other members of his family are caught up in Chronos’s takeover. He is not the playable character: the sequel puts his sister Melinoë in that role. Supergiant’s Hades II FAQ, last updated April 14, 2026, describes the sequel’s premise and identifies Melinoë as Zagreus’s sister.
What is Melinoë trying to do?
Melinoë’s central goal is to confront Chronos and deal with her imprisoned family. That family connection makes Zagreus part of the stakes of the story, even though the game’s main journey belongs to Melinoë. The conflict is not simply a search for Zagreus: it is a wider attempt to stop Chronos and undo the harm caused by his rule.
What happens to Zagreus at the end?
The ending has changed since launch, so accounts of Zagreus’s part in it need a version label. Supergiant said its September 25, 2025 v1.0 release included “the true ending of the story” in its v1.0 announcement. GamesRadar+ later reported that the post-launch ending was revised and describes Melinoë and Zagreus taking part in an appeal to Chronos. The exact details of that scene should be understood as belonging to the revised ending, rather than assumed to match earlier Early Access or launch-era accounts.

The available published accounts do not reproduce the full game script, so a scene-by-scene explanation would risk conflating ending versions. The clearest answer is that Zagreus is among the family affected by Chronos’s takeover, and his role in resolving the conflict is connected to the ending version being described.
Why do some explanations of the ending differ?
Hades II spent time in Early Access before its full release. Early Access accounts may therefore describe a story state that was incomplete or later superseded. The v1.0 update added what Supergiant called the story’s true ending, and subsequent reporting says the ending changed again after launch. When comparing walkthroughs or discussions, check when they were written and whether they refer to an Early Access, v1.0, or revised post-launch ending.

Where can you play Hades II?
As of Supergiant’s FAQ update on April 14, 2026, Hades II is listed for Steam, Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The studio says the game is single-player. Cross-saves are supported between Switch and Switch 2, and between Steam and Epic Games Store; the FAQ does not list other cross-save combinations.
For players interested in a physical copy, Supergiant announced a Nintendo Switch 2 retail edition compatible with the original Switch. It includes a standard game card, a full-color Character Compendium booklet, a soundtrack download code, and a reversible cover. Supergiant announced a North American price of $49.99 in 2025; that is the edition’s historical announced price, not a guarantee of its current cost. The studio’s FAQ says there are no physical editions planned for Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5.
