It triggers a later Brotherhood operation against the synth refuge; the report itself is not described as an immediate attack. If you want to preserve your choices in Far Harbor, make a manual save and report before completing the island’s main story.
What does the Brotherhood report reveal?
The choice is to tell the Brotherhood that Acadia exists as a refuge for synths. Far Harbor’s story revolves around groups with conflicting goals and choices that affect their fates. Bethesda Lead Designer William Shen described the characters as having “their own agendas and goals they try to drag the player into,” and said the team wanted to include many options. Those comments frame the expansion’s choices, but do not specify a guaranteed outcome for every playthrough.
What happens after you report Acadia?
Reporting your findings to the Brotherhood starts Search and Destroy. Quest guides describe a subsequent Brotherhood operation against Acadia, so treat the report as the quest trigger, not as proof that an attack begins immediately. The sources available do not establish the exact encounter sequence, rewards, or every dialogue branch; those details may depend on your game state.
For context, reporting the same findings to the Institute starts a different quest, Forbidden Knowledge. That is a separate faction choice, not part of the Brotherhood quest.
#1 Best Overall
- A new case from Valentine's Detective Agency leads you on a search for a young woman and a secret colony of synths.
- Travel off the coast of Maine to the island of Far Harbor, where higher levels of radiation have created a more feral world.
- Far Harbor features the largest land mass for an add-on that we’ve ever created, filled with new faction quests, settlements, lethal creatures and dungeons.
When should you tell them?
If you want the Brotherhood option, report Acadia before you finish Far Harbor’s main story sequence. Carl’s Fallout 4 Guide warns that reporting after dealing with the island’s conflicts can lead to progression complications: Brotherhood or Institute forces may appear while NPCs are in states that prevent quest completion. This is a timing warning, not a guaranteed bug in every playthrough.
- Make a manual save before reporting, so you can return to the earlier state if the quest does not progress as expected.
- Report Acadia before resolving the island’s main conflicts if you want to reduce the risk of the progression issue described by the guide.
- Check your current quest and NPC state if you have already completed those conflicts; the available guides do not establish a single recovery route that works for every save.
How do you start Far Harbor?
Bethesda Support says Far Harbor can be started at almost any point during Fallout 4’s regular events. Its clearest suggested route is to progress through Getting A Clue, receive the Valentine’s Detective Agency Radio, and begin Far From Home. You do not need to follow that route to understand the Brotherhood choice, but it is Bethesda’s stated path into the DLC.
