Uninstalling Epic Games Launcher can remove the games installed through it on that computer. It does not delete your Epic Games account or automatically remove games from your account’s Library. However, you should back up local saves first and assume you will need to download the games again after reinstalling.
Launcher, game, and account: three different things
Epic Games Launcher is local software. Your installed games are local files. Your Epic account and its Library are online account data. Removing the launcher affects the first two, but it is not the same as deleting your account.

The standard uninstall should not be treated as a guarantee that every Epic-related file disappears. Epic’s Mac cleanup instructions separately identify application-support, cache, preference, log, and cookie folders that may contain leftover launcher data.
Are purchased or claimed games lost?
No—not merely because you uninstalled the launcher. After reinstalling it and signing in to the same Epic account, games associated with that account should appear in Library and can be downloaded again, provided the titles remain available through Epic.

This is account access, not a promise that every title will always remain downloadable. Epic’s Epic Games Store EULA says software can, in rare cases, be removed from the store and become unavailable for future download or access.
Will your saves and progress survive?
That depends on the individual game. Epic Cloud Saves help only when the game supports them and the latest progress has synchronized successfully.

Before uninstalling, launch each important game and let it finish syncing. Then copy its save folder to another drive or a clearly named backup folder. Save locations vary; common areas include Documents, Saved Games, and user-profile AppData folders, but you should check the specific game’s support documentation rather than assume one universal path.

Also back up mods, reshade files, custom configurations, screenshots, launch arguments, and other files you care about. Third-party publisher accounts and online inventories are governed by their own services and are not necessarily stored in the Epic game folder.

Will Fortnite, Rocket League, or other Epic games be affected?
If a game is installed through Epic Games Launcher, its local installation is subject to the launcher’s uninstall process according to Epic’s documentation. Fortnite, Rocket League, and other games may also use separate online services, publisher accounts, cloud systems, anti-cheat components, or additional launchers.
Uninstalling Epic Games Launcher should not be described as guaranteed cleanup of every related component. Local settings, screenshots, mods, caches, and saves can be stored separately, while online profiles and inventories may remain with the game’s own service.
Will uninstalling free disk space?
It can free the space used by the launcher and installed games, but the amount depends entirely on what is installed. Removing only the launcher may recover relatively little; removing several large games may recover hundreds of gigabytes.

How to uninstall Epic Games Launcher safely on Windows 10 or 11
- Close every game.
- Exit Epic Games Launcher from the system tray, not just its main window.
- Open important games once and wait for Cloud Save synchronization to complete.
- Back up non-cloud saves and custom files.
- Record custom Epic library locations if you may need them later.
- Click Start, search for Add or Remove Programs, and open it.
- Find Epic Games Launcher, select it, choose Uninstall, and follow the prompts.
Windows also provides these alternatives, as documented by Microsoft:
- Start > All apps: right-click the program and select Uninstall.
- Settings > Apps > Installed apps: find the program, select More > Uninstall.
- Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features: right-click the program and choose Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.
If Windows will not uninstall it
Restart the PC and try Settings > Apps > Installed apps again. If corrupted uninstall data blocks removal, Microsoft provides a Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter, particularly relevant to Windows 10.
Epic’s reinstall procedure also includes closing the launcher, running System File Checker, restarting, and trying again. The command is:

How to uninstall Epic Games Launcher on Mac
- Close Epic Games Launcher.
- Open Activity Monitor and verify that no Epic Games Launcher processes remain.
- Open Applications.
- Drag Epic Games Launcher to the Trash.
- Check for remaining Epic launcher files in
~/Library/Application Support,~/Library/Caches,~/Library/Preferences,~/Library/Logs, and~/Library/Cookies. - Empty the Trash only after checking that no required saves or personal files are in those locations.
These are the cleanup locations listed in Epic’s Mac reinstall guidance. That page also notes that macOS 10.12 and earlier are no longer supported; platform requirements can change, so check Epic’s current installer requirements when reinstalling.
Do games need to be downloaded again?
Plan on a full reinstall. Epic says the launcher does not currently support automatically detecting previously installed game files. After reinstalling the launcher, games may need to be installed again through Library, even if some old folders remain on the drive.
The practical result is that the launcher may show a game as uninstalled while its files still occupy disk space. Community methods for pointing Epic at existing files are unofficial, can vary by game, and may fail after launcher or game updates. Do not delete old folders until you have decided whether you need their saves or other custom files.

- Download the current installer from the official Epic Games Store download page.
- Install Epic Games Launcher.
- Sign in to the same Epic Games account.
- Open Library and check that your games are listed.
- Install the games again.
- Restore backed-up saves only when the game’s documentation and save structure make that safe.
- Allow Cloud Saves to synchronize before launching or overwriting local save data.
If something goes wrong after uninstalling
Your games are missing from Library
Check that you signed in to the same Epic account. Using a different login method can sometimes lead to a different account association. Then check Library filters, ownership, and whether the title is still available.

The launcher will not recognize old game files
This is expected under Epic’s current support position: automatic detection of previously installed game files is not supported. Reinstall through Library rather than relying on an unsupported file-detection workaround.
A save is missing
Check your backup, the game’s specific save location, and whether you used the same Windows or macOS user profile. Possible causes include absent Cloud Saves, incomplete synchronization, saves stored in the installation folder, or a new installation overwriting a local save. If the game uses a separate publisher account or server-side system, consult that publisher’s support page.
Disk space was not recovered
Check the original library drive, including custom folders and external drives, for leftover game installations and caches. Preserve saves and custom files before removing anything manually.

On Windows, check the system tray and running processes after closing the launcher. On Mac, use Activity Monitor as Epic recommends. Separate anti-cheat tools, publisher launchers, and game dependencies may require game-specific instructions.
When uninstalling is—and is not—a good idea
Uninstalling is reasonable when the launcher is corrupted, repeatedly crashes, needs a clean reinstall, or you want to remove locally installed games. It is not the best first step if your priority is preserving large game files, protecting unsynchronized saves, or simply stopping automatic startup. In those cases, close the launcher, disable startup, or troubleshoot the installation instead of removing it immediately.
