Integrated graphics can run some modern PC games, but performance depends on the exact graphics chip and the laptop or desktop around it. Stronger recent designs can deliver playable results in selected demanding games at modest settings; other games may fall below a smooth frame rate unless you reduce resolution, lower detail, or use a supported upscaler. If you want demanding new releases at high settings and resolutions, a discrete graphics card offers more headroom.
What “integrated graphics” means for gaming
Integrated graphics (iGPU) are graphics processing hardware built into a processor rather than provided by a separate graphics card. The label covers a broad range of capabilities: a computer with integrated graphics is not automatically limited to simple games, but neither does a modern CPU guarantee strong gaming performance. The exact GPU model matters.

An iGPU also shares the system’s power, cooling, and memory resources. In a laptop, the manufacturer’s power limits and cooling design can affect how much performance the graphics hardware sustains. Memory configuration and driver state matter, too. That is why results from one laptop should be treated as evidence about that particular system, not a promise for every computer carrying the same GPU name.

What recent game benchmarks show
PC Gamer’s 2026 hands-on comparison tested an Intel Arc B390 in an Asus Zenbook Duo, an AMD Radeon 890M in an Asus Zephyrus G16, an Intel Arc 140V in an Asus Zenbook S 14, and a 75 W mobile RTX 4050 in an Acer Nitro V 15. The tests used 1080p with game-specific settings. These are results from individual laptop configurations, not a universal ranking of every implementation of each GPU.
The RTX 4050 system had more power available than the Intel iGPU system’s total power. That makes a direct comparison between those laptops imperfect: they are not a controlled comparison of graphics silicon alone. The iGPU results below still illustrate how much performance can vary among tested integrated-graphics systems and games.
| Game and settings | Intel Arc B390 | AMD Radeon 890M | Intel Arc 140V |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cyberpunk 2077, 1080p Medium, no upscaling | 64 fps average; 52 fps 1% low | 41 fps average; 35 fps 1% low | 33 fps average; 27 fps 1% low |
| Black Myth: Wukong, 1080p Medium, no upscaling | 39 fps average; 31 fps 1% low | 23 fps average; 20 fps 1% low | 17 fps average; 14 fps 1% low |
| F1 24, 1080p Medium, no upscaling | 113 fps average; 100 fps 1% low | 74 fps average; 65 fps 1% low | Not stated in PC Gamer’s cited results |
| Cyberpunk 2077, 1080p Medium, upscaling set to Quality | 92 fps average; 60 fps 1% low | 53 fps average; 45 fps 1% low | 40 fps average; 33 fps 1% low |
All figures in the table are PC Gamer’s 2026 results from the named laptops. An average describes overall performance across a test, while a 1% low helps show the slower moments that can make play feel uneven. For example, the Radeon 890M’s 23 fps average and 20 fps 1% low in Black Myth: Wukong indicate a different experience from its 74 fps average and 65 fps 1% low in F1 24 under the same broad resolution and preset.
Recommended Free Tools
The comparison shows both the opportunity and the limit: some tested iGPUs produced strong results in F1 24 and playable averages in Cyberpunk 2077, while the tested Radeon 890M and Arc 140V fell below a 30 fps average in Black Myth: Wukong at the stated settings. A result is not a guarantee for another laptop with the same GPU label, nor is an average alone a complete description of smoothness.

How to judge whether a particular iGPU will suit you
Start with the exact graphics model, not just a processor family or a listing that says “integrated graphics.” Then look for independent tests of the exact laptop or desktop configuration where possible. Compare like with like: a native 1080p result is not equivalent to a result rendered at a lower resolution and upscaled to 1080p.
- Identify the exact GPU and system. Record the graphics model, laptop model or desktop platform, and the configuration tested. Laptop power and cooling can change sustained performance.
- Match the game and settings. Check the actual game, resolution, graphics preset, ray tracing setting, and upscaling mode. A benchmark for one title cannot establish performance in another.
- Read averages and lows together. Average fps gives a broad performance figure; 1% lows help reveal dips. If a source reports frame pacing, consider that as well.
- Decide what “playable” means to you. A player comfortable with lower resolution or detail may accept a result another player would reject. Choose a target before shopping or tuning settings.
- Check memory and driver context. Use independently documented memory capacity and configuration rather than assuming all systems are alike, and note whether the test reflects a current driver state.
Retail price and portability are also relevant when choosing a machine, but they vary by region, configuration, and date. The cited benchmark evidence does not establish current prices or availability, so verify those for the exact system you are considering.
How to improve performance when a game is too slow
Change one group of settings at a time and test an ordinary gameplay scene, not just a menu or a short, unusually quiet section. Reducing rendering resolution can increase speed but makes the image less detailed; lowering a preset can reduce visual effects; upscaling can reconstruct a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render, with an image-quality trade-off that depends on the mode and game.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Begin at the game’s native resolution. If native 1080p is too slow, try 1600×900 or 1280×720. Lowering resolution can help performance, though the image will be softer, especially on a display with a higher native resolution.
- Choose Low or Medium graphics settings. If performance remains poor, reduce demanding options such as shadows. Disable ray tracing if the game offers it and it is enabled; it can be especially costly for an iGPU.
- Check whether the game offers an upscaler. Try its Quality mode first, then Balanced or Performance if you still need more speed. More aggressive modes generally trade more image fidelity for performance.
- Test a representative gameplay section. Look at both average performance and dips, and pay attention to whether motion feels consistent. A single average or a menu scene may not reflect play in a busy area.
- Keep the settings that meet your trade-off. If the image becomes too blurry or dips remain disruptive even after adjustment, the game may not be a good fit for that system at your target settings.
Intel XeSS is available in supported titles on Intel Arc graphics and GPUs from other vendors. When a game offers it, select it in the game’s display or graphics menu. Intel describes Quality settings as preserving more image quality with a smaller performance gain, while more aggressive Performance settings can deliver a larger gain with greater image-quality loss. The supported-game list can change, so availability is title-specific.

AMD distinguishes FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), which is integrated into supported games, from Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), a driver-level option for compatible AMD RDNA architecture or newer graphics hardware when a game runs in exclusive full-screen mode. FSR availability depends on the game and supported product; some FSR features are enabled in the game, while certain supported versions can be managed through AMD Software. AMD recommends in-game FSR when available because it typically produces better results. Running RSR and FSR together can degrade image quality.
These feature descriptions do not establish a particular frame-rate increase on integrated graphics. An upscaler’s effect depends on the game, GPU, mode, and settings. Treat a result with upscaling as a different image-quality target from a native-resolution result rather than comparing the frame rates alone. AMD’s RSR page also lists “up to” multipliers from its own tests, but those were dated February 8, 2022, and used a discrete Radeon RX 6800 XT—not an integrated GPU. For example, AMD cited up to 3.2x in Cyberpunk 2077 when upscaling 1080p to 4K versus native 4K, and up to 2.1x from 1440p to 4K. Those vendor figures are not independent iGPU results and should not be used to predict what an integrated-graphics system will gain.
Where integrated graphics make sense—and where they do not
Integrated graphics are a reasonable fit when portability, a compact system, or avoiding a separate graphics card matters more than maximum visual settings. They can suit casual play, older games, esports titles, and selected current games when you are willing to adjust resolution or detail. Individual game demands vary, so check the titles you actually plan to play rather than relying on a genre label alone.

What to check before buying an iGPU laptop
Look up tests for the precise model and configuration rather than buying on the strength of a GPU name alone. PC Gamer’s Arc B390 results came from an Asus Zenbook Duo; they do not automatically transfer to every laptop equipped with an Arc B390. For any candidate, seek the intended games tested at the resolution and settings you would use, and compare averages with 1% lows where available.
- Confirm the exact integrated GPU model and laptop configuration.
- Check the laptop’s cooling and power configuration in independent coverage where documented.
- Compare game, resolution, preset, ray tracing, and upscaling mode across benchmarks.
- Look for 1% lows as well as averages, and consider whether the source reports frame pacing.
- Verify current regional price and retail availability for the exact configuration.
For example, the Arc B390 laptop tests demonstrate that an integrated design can produce substantial frame rates in selected games, including Cyberpunk 2077 and F1 24 at the stated settings. They do not establish that every B390 laptop will match the Zenbook Duo result or that it will meet your target in every new release.

Can integrated graphics run games at 1080p?
Yes, some can, but 1080p performance varies by GPU, system, and game. In PC Gamer’s 2026 laptop tests, the Arc B390 averaged 64 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p Medium without upscaling, while the Arc 140V averaged 33 fps. The same tested integrated GPUs had much lower averages in Black Myth: Wukong. Check benchmarks for your game and exact laptop rather than treating 1080p as a guarantee.

Should I use XeSS, FSR, or Radeon Super Resolution?
Use an option the game and GPU support, then compare the image and performance in actual play. XeSS is available in supported titles on Intel Arc and other vendors’ GPUs. FSR is offered in supported games; AMD recommends in-game FSR over RSR when available because it typically gives better results. RSR is a driver-level option for compatible AMD RDNA-or-newer graphics hardware and exclusive full-screen games. Do not run RSR and FSR together, which AMD warns can degrade image quality.
Does upscaling guarantee a big frame-rate increase on an iGPU?
No. The gain depends on the game, GPU, upscaler, quality mode, and settings, and a faster result comes with an image-quality trade-off. Compare upscaled results with their mode identified rather than treating them as equivalent to native-resolution results. AMD’s published RSR multipliers are from a discrete RX 6800 XT test setup, not integrated graphics, so they do not predict an iGPU’s uplift.
The Bottom Line
Modern integrated graphics can handle selected current games, particularly if you are willing to adjust resolution and detail. But there is no single iGPU performance level: the exact graphics model, laptop or desktop design, game, and settings all matter. Check game-specific tests for the system you plan to buy, compare averages with 1% lows, and treat upscaling as a trade-off rather than a guaranteed fix. For demanding new releases at high settings or resolutions, a discrete GPU offers more headroom.
