HotHardware’s January 11, 2024 recap presents these as interview-era comments—not a current Intel roadmap or a performance review of the Claw.
Why Intel saw Meteor Lake as a fit for gaming handhelds
In its recap of Petersen’s CES 2024 interview with PC World, HotHardware reported that he considered Meteor Lake well suited to handheld gaming PCs because of its efficiency. He also described handheld thermal design as having similarities to thin-and-light laptops and tablets, where managing heat in a compact device is a central design constraint.

That is a platform rationale, not evidence that a particular handheld delivers a given frame rate, battery life, or temperature. HotHardware’s recap does not provide comparative thermal measurements or a Claw performance test.

HotHardware reported that Intel worked with MSI on the Claw’s thermal solution and board design. The recap says the handheld used a stock Core Ultra 7 processor, rather than a custom chip designed specifically for handhelds. Petersen was described as open to the possibility of custom processors for this market in the future.

The interview recap also described the Core Ultra 7 165H and AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme as a comparison Petersen considered apt. That is not a benchmark: the article does not report a controlled test between the processors or establish which performs better in a handheld.
How Meteor Lake’s integrated Arc graphics fit in
The recap links Meteor Lake’s integrated graphics to Intel’s Arc Alchemist graphics architecture and notes that the integrated GPU could benefit from Intel’s ongoing graphics-driver work. HotHardware characterized Arc driver support as having matured, but this remains the publication’s assessment as reported in the recap; it is not a measured result for the MSI Claw.

What Petersen said about NPUs and games
As summarized by HotHardware, Petersen framed Meteor Lake’s neural processing unit (NPU) as a low-power engine for features that can run continuously, with facial and gesture recognition as examples. He also discussed possible future uses in games, but those examples were speculative rather than announced Claw features or demonstrated game capabilities.

On Intel’s next graphics generation, HotHardware reported that first Battlemage silicon was already in Intel’s labs at the time of the CES 2024 interview. It also reported Petersen saying that 30% of Intel’s graphics engineers were working on Battlemage software. That figure describes the staffing share he was reported to have cited then, not Intel’s current staffing or a present-day roadmap.

What this interview recap can—and cannot—tell you
- It records Intel’s efficiency-based case for Meteor Lake in handhelds and the reported Intel–MSI collaboration on the Claw’s board and cooling design.
- It does not show measured Claw game performance, battery life, or thermal behavior.
- Its Battlemage details and staffing figure belong to the CES 2024 interview timeframe, not to a current status update.
- It is HotHardware’s secondary recap of a PC World interview, not a transcript. Petersen’s remarks are therefore best treated as attributed paraphrases.
