Its lead gameplay designer, Jeppe Carlsen, is credited by the official site as the lead gameplay designer of LIMBO and INSIDE; COCOON is a new game, not a sequel to either. Geometric Interactive developed it, and Annapurna Interactive published it.
What is COCOON?
COCOON is an adventure through alien environments and layered worlds. Its defining idea is that each world exists inside an orb. Carry an orb into another world, jump into the world it contains, and bring that orb back out to affect the place you left. Puzzles ask you to combine, manipulate and rearrange these worlds rather than simply move through a single connected landscape.

The official site describes the mechanic as “world-leaping.” The setting moves among alien machinery, industrial structures and organic caverns, with guardians encountered along the way. The result is a game whose exploration and puzzle solving are closely linked: understanding where a world sits in relation to another can be as important as finding a route through either one.
How do the orb puzzles work?
An orb is both a container for a world and a tool the player can carry between worlds. That makes the puzzle space nested: an action in one place can depend on what is inside an orb, where that orb is taken, or how its world is used in relation to another.

Orbs also grant abilities that can be used beyond their own contained worlds. The official descriptions give examples such as revealing hidden routes and objects, or firing projectiles to trigger switches. These abilities add another layer to the central mechanic: solving a puzzle may involve choosing the right world to carry, then applying its ability in a different setting.
Who made COCOON?
Geometric Interactive is the developer, and Annapurna Interactive is the publisher, according to Annapurna Interactive’s official game page. The official COCOON site presents the game as the work of Jeppe Carlsen, identifying him as “the lead gameplay designer of LIMBO and INSIDE.” That is a specific credit to Carlsen; it does not mean the studios or full development teams behind those earlier games made COCOON.

Which platforms can you play COCOON on?
Official game and storefront pages list COCOON for PC via Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. The PlayStation listing supports PS4 and PS5. Check the storefront for your country and the edition you intend to buy, since platform-specific availability and listing details can differ.

The original release date commonly given for the game is September 29, 2023. The US PlayStation page displays September 30 in its localized release field, while also showing September 29 in platform details; use the relevant local store listing when checking availability or purchase details.

Are physical editions and other COCOON products available?
iam8bit lists retail editions for Switch and PS5, as well as a collector’s edition and a black-vinyl soundtrack. Its page also provides an Amazon store option. These listings can change, so check the current product page and marketplace in your region for stock, format and edition details rather than relying on an old listing.
The official game site also describes Cocoon: Design Works, a book created with Lost in Cult, Geometric Interactive and Annapurna Interactive. It covers the game’s development and includes interviews with Jeppe Carlsen, Jakob Schmid and Erwin Kho. The current order status should be confirmed with the seller.
