Destiny: Rising is a separate, free-to-play mobile RPG shooter set in the Destiny universe. NetEase Games developed and published it under license from Bungie. It has its own story, set in an alternate timeline, rather than continuing the mainline Destiny 2 narrative.
Who made Destiny: Rising?
NetEase Games is the developer and publisher; Bungie licensed the Destiny intellectual property. NetEase announced the game in 2024 as a new mobile take on the franchise, and released it worldwide for iOS and Android on August 28, 2025. The official website currently lists the game as available and links to mobile stores as well as a PC emulator option.
That distinction matters: this is an official game in the Destiny universe, but it is not a Bungie-developed mobile version of Destiny 2. It is a separate title made by NetEase under license.
Is Destiny: Rising part of the Destiny 2 story?
No. NetEase describes Destiny: Rising as an alternate timeline set in the post-Dark-Age era, after civilization’s collapse and during humanity’s efforts to rebuild. The story introduces a new generation of Lightbearers—people resurrected by Ghosts—and includes familiar Destiny characters alongside new heroes. It is not presented as a continuation of Destiny 2’s main story.

The publisher names Haven, the icy ancient metro of Jiangshi, and the Red Sea Rift among the settings. These details describe the game’s fictional world, not a critical assessment of how those locations play.
How does the game play?
NetEase describes a mix of solo, cooperative, and competitive play. Its announced features include campaign missions, six-player co-op strikes, replayable PvE and PvP modes, clans, casual party modes, and shared spaces. Characters have individual abilities and stories, while exotic weapons can be customized with different traits.

Where can you play Destiny: Rising?
The global mobile release was for iOS and Android on August 28, 2025. The official site also links to a PC emulator, but that listing alone does not establish that an emulator is required or the best way to play. Does Destiny: Rising connect to Destiny 2?
NetEase announced a limited cross-promotion: completing the “Bear the Light” event in Destiny: Rising could unlock an emblem for Destiny 2 through Bungie.net. The announcement does not establish that the event or reward is still available. It is a promotional link between two separate games, not evidence that their stories or progression are shared.
