Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a runs-based racing adventure set in the lawless Outer Rim after the Empire’s fall. You play Shade, an ambitious pilot entering the unsanctioned Galactic League to challenge its champion, Kestar Bool. Races use landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers, while Campaign, Scenario, and Arcade modes combine story progression with repeatable competition. The game launched on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
What Galactic Racer is—and what it is not
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is built around high-risk racing runs rather than a conventional open-world adventure. Lucasfilm frames it as a cinematic, skill-driven racing game in a period when the Empire’s collapse has left the New Republic rebuilding. In that power vacuum, gambling, entertainment and personal glory support an underground racing economy. The Galactic League is an unsanctioned circuit backed by syndicates and populated by pilots willing to risk a great deal for status and money.

That premise gives the game a different shape from a story-heavy action game. You are not freely exploring every planet as a general-purpose Star Wars hero. Instead, you choose events, race, collect rewards, fit improvements, and decide how far to push a run before attempting another tour. Steam’s official feature labels identify single-player, online player-versus-player and cross-platform multiplayer features, but the published materials do not specify every player-count limit or every supported cross-platform pairing. Those details should be checked in the current platform documentation.
The result is a Star Wars racing game with a campaign, repeatable scenarios and traditional arcade-style play. Its central question is not whether Shade can finish one race, but whether you can manage risk, equipment and event choices well enough to survive a complete run and eventually remove Kestar Bool from the top of the League.

The story: Shade enters the Galactic League
A personal challenge to Kestar Bool
The campaign follows Shade, an up-and-coming racer with a grudge against the Bool family. Kestar Bool is the reigning champion of the Outer Rim’s Galactic League. His status gives him influence beyond the track: he intimidates rival pilots and uses the League’s power to expand his family’s reach. Shade enters the circuit with the specific goal of unseating him.
The story therefore has a clear competitive spine. Each race is part of Shade’s attempt to gain credibility, earn equipment and expose or survive Kestar’s schemes. The League’s syndicate connections make the campaign feel less like a neutral sporting championship and more like a dangerous business in which every victory can attract a stronger opponent.
Hibi’s workshop
Shade’s mechanic, Hibi, runs a workshop in the paddock. Parts earned during runs or purchased from Hibi can be fitted there, making the workshop the campaign’s practical hub. It is where a successful run becomes a better-prepared attempt: you review what you have acquired, install useful components and decide how to tune your vehicle for the next set of events.
Sebulba’s role
Legendary podracer Sebulba also appears in the campaign. He helps prepare Shade for Kestar Bool’s plans, tying the new story to the older Star Wars racing tradition without making Shade a replacement for the films’ established characters. Sebulba’s presence is especially significant because the game treats podracing as one racing discipline among several, rather than as its only vehicle type.

How the runs-based campaign works
A run is a connected attempt through a sequence of races and events. The official description emphasizes choices, consequences, unlocks and renewed attempts rather than a single uninterrupted ladder. A crash can end the current tour, after which you regroup and begin again. Some perks and unlocks carry over, so failure is part of the progression model rather than a complete reset.
- Choose the next event. Event selection determines the immediate race and the type of risk or reward you are accepting. The campaign’s branching choices mean two attempts do not have to follow exactly the same route.
- Race with the appropriate craft. Landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders and podracers have different handling identities. Vehicle choice and your installed parts affect how you approach the next course.
- Manage the run’s risk. Pushing farther can expose Shade to more valuable rewards and tougher situations. A crash ends the tour, so taking every available risk is not automatically the best strategy.
- Collect parts, tools and upgrades. Rewards from successful events expand what you can do at Hibi’s workshop. Equipment earned during a run can make later attempts more viable.
- Recover after failure. When a crash ends a tour, carry-over perks and unlocks give the next attempt a foundation. The goal is to turn information from the failed run into a stronger route and setup.
- Progress toward Kestar Bool. The campaign’s long-term objective is to build enough skill, equipment and League standing to challenge the champion and deal with the schemes surrounding him.
This structure is closer to a run-based adventure than to a simple list of races. It rewards route planning and adaptation as much as raw lap performance. A player who treats every event as mandatory may lose a promising run; a player who understands when to bank progress can arrive at later challenges with better equipment and more options.
Modes and multiplayer
| Mode | What the official descriptions establish | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign | Shade’s story, the Galactic League, event choices, progression, Hibi’s workshop and the conflict with Kestar Bool. | Follow the narrative and build long-term upgrades through repeated runs. |
| Scenario | A separate mode listed by the official materials for focused racing situations. | Play defined challenges without relying solely on the main campaign structure. |
| Arcade | A dedicated mode for straightforward racing play. | Jump into races for quick sessions or practice. |
| Online multiplayer | Steam lists online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer features. | Compete with other players; exact player counts and platform pairings are not stated in the published overview. |
Campaign is the mode that explains Shade’s rivalry and the run system. Scenario and Arcade provide alternatives when you want a more focused challenge or a shorter session. The existence of online PvP means the game is not limited to solo play, but the available official descriptions do not establish a complete ruleset for online events, matchmaking or cross-play combinations.

Vehicles: four kinds of Star Wars racing
| Vehicle class | How it fits the game | What is confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Landspeeders | Repulsorcraft suited to the game’s ground-level Outer Rim racing. | Playable vehicle class with customization and upgrades. |
| Speeder bikes | Light, exposed racing machines that bring a distinct visual and handling identity. | Playable vehicle class listed by official sources. |
| Skim speeders | Another repulsorcraft category used to vary the racing experience. | Playable vehicle class listed by official sources. |
| Podracers | The class most directly connected to the franchise’s classic podracing tradition. | Playable vehicle class; Sebulba appears in the campaign. |
Official descriptions stress that the craft classes are distinct and can be customized. They also mention parts, tools and upgrades earned through runs. The available information does not provide a complete stat sheet for acceleration, turning, durability or boost behavior, so those values should not be inferred from the vehicle names alone. In practice, the useful decision is to match your current vehicle and equipment to the event’s demands, then use the workshop to correct weaknesses exposed by a run.

Planets and racing environments
The game’s locations mix recognizable Star Wars worlds with less familiar destinations. Official articles name Jakku, Sentinel I, Lantaana, Derven Acos, Ando Prime, Tatooine and Crait. The gameplay reveal specifically highlights Sentinel I, Jakku, Ando Prime and Lantaana.
| Location | Why it matters in the published material |
|---|---|
| Jakku | A recognizable desert world and one of the environments highlighted in the gameplay reveal. |
| Sentinel I | One of the principal locations shown in the gameplay reveal. |
| Lantaana | Highlighted as a racing environment in the gameplay material. |
| Ando Prime | Highlighted in the gameplay reveal and included among the named destinations. |
| Derven Acos | Named by the official game articles as part of the wider location list. |
| Tatooine | A familiar Star Wars setting with a direct connection to the franchise’s racing history. |
| Crait | Named among the planets and environments in the official descriptions. |
The published location list confirms the worlds represented, but it does not provide a full track-by-track catalogue or a complete description of every hazard. It is safer to treat the planet names as the confirmed setting list rather than assume that each world has a particular number of circuits or a specific race format.
How Galactic Racer connects to Star Wars
Podracing tradition
The strongest connection is the game’s use of podracing alongside other repulsorcraft competitions. The concept recalls the high-speed race in Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace and the earlier game Star Wars: Episode I: Racer. Galactic Racer expands that tradition into an Outer Rim League with multiple craft classes and a new protagonist.

Returning character: Sebulba
Sebulba is not merely a visual reference. The veteran podracer is part of the campaign and helps Shade prepare for Kestar Bool’s schemes. His presence gives the new League a direct link to the older racing culture established in the films.

Recognizable worlds
Jakku and Tatooine connect the new circuit to places longtime fans already know, while Sentinel I, Lantaana, Derven Acos, Ando Prime and Crait broaden the setting beyond the most familiar planets. The Outer Rim focus is consistent with the series’ history of depicting remote worlds where local power, trade and spectacle can operate outside central authority.
A new story rather than a retelling
Shade, Kestar Bool, Hibi and the Galactic League are original to this game’s campaign. The Star Wars references support the setting and racing lineage, but the central rivalry is not a retelling of the films. That lets the game use familiar ingredients—podracing, desert worlds and syndicate politics—while telling a new story.

Editions, physical copies and dated prices
The game is sold in Standard and Deluxe formats, and the official site also describes a physical Collector’s Edition. The US PlayStation product page and Steam listing each showed the following prices at the time they were accessed:
| Edition | Format and platform information | Price shown at access time |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Digital edition on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC; physical Standard editions are described for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. | $59.99 on the US PlayStation page and Steam listing. |
| Deluxe | Digital Deluxe edition on the listed platforms; physical Deluxe editions are described for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. | $79.99 on the US PlayStation page and Steam listing. |
| Collector’s | Physical edition described by the official game site. | Price not stated in the cited official material. |
The $59.99 and $79.99 figures are dated store snapshots, not a promise of current pricing. Regional taxes, discounts, platform sales and availability can change the amount. A physical Standard or Deluxe copy is not established for PC by the official edition description; that description limits physical Standard and Deluxe editions to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
What the Collector’s Edition contains
- Digital Deluxe content.
- A metal Kor Sarun: Darc X landspeeder model.
- Kestar’s banner.
- Pilot patches.
- A printed 80-page art book.
- A steel case with slipcover.
The official site confirms that a physical Collector’s Edition exists, but stock, retailer eligibility and regional availability must be verified where you plan to buy. The contents above should not be read as a guarantee that every retailer has the bundle in stock.

The US PlayStation product page lists several accessibility options. These include visual-comfort settings, alternatives for visual and audio cues, screen-reader assistance for starting the game and navigating settings, subtitle and caption options, and volume controls.
There is an important limitation: the page says the screen reader may not communicate all gameplay text and visual information. Players who depend on complete spoken access should check the current accessibility description and, where possible, confirm how the features work in the specific mode and language they intend to use.
Who Galactic Racer is for
- Star Wars racing fans: Podracers, Sebulba, Tatooine and the link to The Phantom Menace make the franchise connection central rather than cosmetic.
- Players who enjoy repeatable progression: Runs, carry-over perks, event choices and workshop upgrades give failure a continuing purpose.
- Arcade-racing players: Arcade mode offers a direct way to race without treating the campaign as the only activity.
- Players who want a new Star Wars story: Shade’s rivalry with Kestar Bool is original, even though it uses familiar Outer Rim themes.
- Players seeking a fully open-world adventure: The official description presents a focused racing game, not a free-roaming galaxy simulator.
The best way to approach it is as a strategic racing adventure: learn how each craft class behaves, select events with the whole run in mind, use Hibi’s workshop to address weaknesses and accept that a crash can be part of progress. The campaign’s appeal comes from combining that decision-making loop with a Star Wars setting that recognizes its racing history while introducing a new cast.
