What comes with the base Ultimate Edition?
Microsoft described the 2015 release as the original Gears of War rebuilt for Xbox One. Its launch feature list covers the campaign and multiplayer additions below. Microsoft’s August 25, 2015 launch announcement called the experience “completely and painstakingly rebuilt from the ground up.”
- The original campaign, rebuilt: The core story is the campaign from the first Gears of War.
- Five additional campaign missions: These are the Timgad Station missions, cut from the original Xbox 360 version. Microsoft estimated they add at least 90 minutes of gameplay; that is a launch-era estimate, not a guaranteed playtime. Microsoft’s August 6, 2015 preview identifies the missions and their estimated length.
- 19 classic multiplayer maps: The maps were remastered for Xbox One.
- Three added multiplayer modes: The launch announcement lists these as additions to the multiplayer offering.
- 60 frames per second multiplayer: This was a feature Microsoft specified in its 2015 launch announcement.
- Modernized controls: Microsoft also highlighted updated controls for the release.
- 1,250 Gamerscore in new Achievements: This figure is from Microsoft’s launch announcement.
What does the Deluxe Version add?
The Xbox store lists a Gears of War Ultimate Edition Deluxe Version separately from the base game. Its description says it includes the base game, the Deluxe Weapon Skin Pack, and Aaron Griffin as a multiplayer character. Check the Xbox store’s exact edition listing when buying: other add-ons may appear on the store page without being part of the base edition.
Which platforms and multiplayer features are listed?
The Xbox product listing, accessed October 8, 2026, lists Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. It also lists local co-op, online co-op, local multiplayer, online multiplayer, and shared/split screen. These are current store-listing details and could change. How to tell which edition you are buying
- Check the full product name: it should say either Ultimate Edition or Ultimate Edition Deluxe Version.
- For the Deluxe Version, confirm the listing explicitly includes the Deluxe Weapon Skin Pack and Aaron Griffin.
- Check the seller’s listing for format and condition. The Xbox store describes a digital product; current physical-copy inventory, prices, and condition are not established here.
