The Captain America and Black Panther game is Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, an original World War II-era adventure from Skydance New Media and Marvel Games. It follows four playable characters—young Steve Rogers, Azzuri, Gabriel Jones, and Nanali—at different points in a globe-trotting story. Its release has been pushed beyond early 2026, and a later reported comment from a Paramount Games Studio executive said he did not think it would arrive in 2026. No firm release date is established.
What is Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra?
It is a narrative-driven ensemble adventure set during the World War II era. Skydance New Media and Marvel described it as an original story, rather than identifying it as an adaptation of a particular comic, film, or television story. The announcement characterized the adventure as globe-trotting but did not specify its exact year, locations, or full plot.

- Steve Rogers / Captain America: A younger Steve Rogers, before the familiar image of the veteran hero.
- Azzuri / Black Panther: T’Challa’s grandfather and the Black Panther of the World War II era.
- Gabriel Jones: A U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos.
- Nanali: Leader of the fledgling Wakandan Spy Network.
That lineup makes the story broader than a two-hero team-up: it connects Captain America and Black Panther’s worlds with a soldier from the Howling Commandos and a Wakandan intelligence leader.
What is the story about?
The confirmed premise is an original WWII-era Marvel adventure featuring the four characters above. The announcement calls it globe-trotting and says its creative inspirations include landmark comics, television, and films, but it does not name a specific work as the game’s direct source. A Game Informer interview with the creative team, published the day after the announcement, offers additional background on the project.
Captain America/Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers is related reading for anyone interested in those heroes in a WWII-era Marvel story. Neither the announcement nor the interview establishes that the game adapts that comic or takes it as a direct inspiration.
When will Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra be released?
There is no firm release date established by the available reporting. GamesRadar reported that Skydance shifted the game’s window beyond early 2026, quoting the studio’s explanation that the team needed more time to realize its vision and meet its quality goals. In a later interview covered by GamesRadar, Paramount Games Studio senior vice president and head of creative and production Shawn Kittelsen said, “I don’t think it’ll be 2026.”
The executive’s comment is an expectation, not a confirmed launch date. The GamesRadar report on the release-window shift is the source for both updates; older expectations of a 2025 or early-2026 release should not be treated as the current schedule.
What has not been confirmed?
The announcement establishes the premise and playable-character lineup, but it does not provide enough detail to answer several practical questions. The materials cited here do not confirm:
- Which platforms the game will launch on.
- Whether it will include multiplayer.
- Its detailed combat, exploration, or character-specific mechanics.
- Whether preorders are available.
Without official platform or product listings, there is no supported platform comparison or edition breakdown to give.
