Its publishing arrangement has changed since its 2024 announcement: reporting in September 2026 says Sony stopped funding the project and Microsoft’s Xbox became its publisher. Kojima Productions says development continues with Xbox. A release date and final platform list have not been confirmed in the cited sources.
What kind of game is Physint?
Kojima Productions announced Physint on January 31, 2024 as a new action-espionage game. Hideo Kojima described it as a spy game built around new ideas and a different kind of spy action. At announcement, he also said the project would use contemporary technology and a strong cast, with an ambition to blur the boundary between games and film. Kojima Productions’ announcement
The announcement said preparations were underway and production would begin in earnest after Death Stranding 2. That was Kojima’s statement in January 2024, not a current schedule or a release estimate.
Is Physint a new Metal Gear game?
No Metal Gear connection has been announced. The comparison is understandable: both projects involve espionage, and Kojima is closely associated with the Metal Gear series. But Kojima has described Physint as a new spy game with a different creative direction, not as a Metal Gear installment. In a Koji10 podcast Q&A, as reported by GamesRadar+, he said: “It’s about spies, but I want plenty of new ideas and a different kind of spy action. It’s quite different.” GamesRadar+’s report

Who is publishing Physint now?
The project was originally announced as a collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment. The Washington Post reported on September 20, 2026 that Sony had stopped funding Physint and that Microsoft’s Xbox had become its new publisher. Kojima Productions said development continues with Xbox and that its relationship with PlayStation remains strong. The studio also urged readers to be skeptical of unsupported explanations for the change; Kojima told the newspaper Sony had not given him a reason. The Washington Post’s report
What is known about development and the cast?
Kojima told The Washington Post he had written the plot and game concept and completed storyboards. He said the studio had started 3D modeling and cast scanning, and that he was testing different game engines without having made a final selection. Those production details do not establish when the game will be finished or released.

No release date or final platform list has been established in the cited sources. The original Sony partnership does not confirm a PlayStation release after the reported change in publishing, and Xbox’s role as publisher does not by itself establish an Xbox-exclusive release. Treat any specific launch window or platform claim as unconfirmed unless Kojima Productions or its publisher announces it.
