Use an Epic Seven tier list as a dated shortlist for one activity—not as a universal ranking or a build order. First identify the content you need to clear, then compare a hero’s role, team fit, gear demands, and upgrade cost against your account. A high rank only matters if the hero helps your team do that specific job.
Why there is no single tier list for every activity
Epic Seven asks teams to solve different problems in story progression, Hunts, Abyss, automatic Arena, Guild content, and real-time Arena (RTA). A hero who is useful in one setting is not automatically the best choice in another. The Epic Seven Wiki separates PvE and PvP rankings and notes that automatic Arena and RTA call for different teams; Pocket Gamer likewise advises using the list for the relevant game instance. Epic7DB and other community lists are judgments based on player opinions and experience, not official in-game grades.
Dates matter, too. The Epic Seven Wiki labels its ranking a September 2026 snapshot and warns that balance changes can shift placements. Pocket Gamer’s guide is marked version 1.0.974 and updated September 16, 2026. Those dates identify when the guides were current; they do not establish how accurate a ranking is or how a hero performs today. Check the page’s own date before relying on it, especially after a balance change or when changing modes.
One terminology trap: Epic7DB describes its own list as “official,” but also says its tiers reflect player opinions and experience. That wording does not make the list an endorsement or ranking from Smilegate. The Epic Seven Wiki explicitly describes community rankings as unofficial. Treat both as third-party guides.

Start with the activity and its win condition
Before looking at a hero’s tier, name the job you need done: advance a story stage, clear a particular Hunt, progress in Abyss, improve automatic Arena defense or offense, or build for RTA. Then use a ranking or guide that covers that activity. A broad PvE tier is not a substitute for advice about a specific encounter, and an Arena recommendation does not automatically transfer to RTA.
For story teams, Pocket Gamer offers a broad starting point: a tank, a healer, and area damage. Use that as a role checklist, not a fixed recipe. Check the stage’s objective and enemy mechanics; a composition that works in one chapter may not address another stage’s needs.

Translate a rank into a team job
Ask what the hero contributes to the team: damage, protection, healing, control, cleansing, or setup. Then identify what your current lineup is missing. The goal is not to collect the highest-ranked names but to assemble roles that work together against the content in front of you. A hero can rank highly and still be a poor next investment if your team already has that job covered or cannot support the hero’s contribution.
Rank labels also differ between sites. Epic7DB describes tiers using both general usefulness and more specific strengths, while another guide may use a tier to signal a current pick or counter. Do not treat the same letter or tier name on two sites as a shared measurement scale.

Check team examples against the actual encounter
When deciding between Hunt options, look for recorded teams for that particular Hunt and compare the roles and mechanics—not just how often a hero appears. Hideout Guides lists 249 Hunt teams and attributes the records to official strategy-guide data covering clears from September 10–16, 2026. The page presents different four-hero teams in the same Hunt category, illustrating that more than one lineup can address an encounter.
That count is a sample of recorded teams, not a controlled performance study, a hero win rate, or proof that the most frequently listed composition is best. Use an example to generate a candidate lineup, then check whether its mechanics cover your encounter and whether you have the required heroes and equipment. Hideout’s Hunt guide presents the records; it is not itself an independent test.

Make gear and account readiness part of the decision
A placement does not tell you whether your account can meet a hero’s build demands. Hideout Guides’ overview, labeled updated October 2026, describes teams of four heroes, with six gear pieces per hero, and notes that gear substats affect power. The Epic Seven Wiki’s guide hub connects Hunt farming with gear and progression. In practical terms, consider whether the equipment and stats you can field are adequate for the job, rather than assuming a highly ranked hero will perform at the level implied by the list.
The cited guides do not establish current, complete hero-by-hero builds or numeric stat thresholds for every matchup. Avoid treating an unsourced stat target as universal. When evaluating a build, use activity-specific guidance where available and compare it with the gear your account actually has.

Spend promotion and skill-up resources on a needed job
Building every highly ranked hero is not a sensible default. The Epic Seven Wiki’s progression advice favors a useful Hunt core and support before later PvP investment. That is an unofficial guide recommendation, not an in-game rule, but it points to a practical way to prioritize scarce resources: focus on a team that advances a current account goal before investing in a hero for a mode you are not yet pursuing.
When two candidates could fill the same role, compare their opportunity cost. Is one already developed? Do you have a substitute who covers the job? Will investing in the new hero help you reach a priority such as a reliable first Hunt clear? A tier alone cannot answer those account-specific questions.
A quick comparison checklist
- Mode and encounter: Is the list for the content you intend to play, and does it address the specific stage or Hunt?
- Role and synergy: What does the hero contribute, and what missing team job does that contribution fill?
- Gear feasibility: Can your account equip the hero for the task, based on relevant build guidance rather than an assumed universal threshold?
- Teammates and substitutes: Do you have the other heroes needed to make the plan work, or an alternative for the same job?
- Investment cost: Is promotion or skill-up spending more useful here than on an existing or higher-priority team?
- List date: When was the ranking updated, and have balance changes or a switch in activity made it less relevant?
There is no published official scoring formula behind these comparison points. They are a practical way to apply community rankings while accounting for mode, team fit, gear, and progression.
