Instead of controlling an entire team from a broadcast-style camera, each player controls one athlete in a third-person 5v5 match. Its arcade rules and emphasis on positioning and teamwork make it a different kind of game from a traditional soccer simulation.
What kind of soccer game is Rematch?
Rematch turns soccer into a fast-paced team action game. You control one player on the pitch, read the space around you from a third-person perspective, and coordinate with teammates. Sloclap describes it as competitive 5v5 football; the Steam listing likewise describes third-person matches in which each player controls one athlete. Steam’s game listing
The rules are streamlined for continuous play: PlayStation’s description says there are no offsides, fouls, or pauses. There are no player-stat advantages, either, so execution and team coordination—not building a statistically superior squad—are central to the experience. PlayStation’s Rematch page
Xbox Wire described team formats of three, four, or five players and matches lasting about six minutes in its July 24, 2025 interview. Those are details from that dated feature description, not a guarantee that every format is always available or ranked. Xbox Wire’s interview with Sloclap

How it differs from a traditional soccer simulation
| Aspect | Rematch | Traditional soccer simulation |
|---|---|---|
| Control | One athlete per player, viewed in third person | Typically involves directing a full team; exact controls vary by game |
| Rules and pacing | Arcade-style continuous play without offsides, fouls, or pauses, according to PlayStation | Usually models conventional soccer stoppages and rules |
| Team size and match length | Xbox Wire described three-, four-, and five-player formats and matches of about six minutes in July 2025 | Varies by game and mode |
| What determines performance | Individual execution, positioning, and coordination; PlayStation says there are no player stats | Varies by game, but often includes team management and player attributes |
Is Rematch made by the Sifu developers?
Yes. Sloclap developed both Rematch and Sifu, but the games are not a series: Rematch is a soccer game, not a martial-arts game or a Sifu sequel. Sloclap’s studio page lists more than 4 million Sifu units sold across all platforms. Sloclap’s studio page
Sloclap CEO Pierre Tarno told Xbox Wire that the studio was pursuing an alternative to football simulations: “We weren’t looking to compete with traditional football sims. We wanted to offer something different, something fast, immersive, and focused on teamplay.” Xbox Wire, July 24, 2025

Can you play Rematch offline or by yourself?
Rematch is primarily an online multiplayer game, but the official FAQ lists offline practice and free play. It is not a full offline story or solo campaign: the FAQ says a solo campaign is not on the current roadmap, while mentioning single-player workshops and the possibility of future solo content. What platforms is Rematch on?
Sloclap’s FAQ lists PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. On PC, the FAQ says players can use the Xbox App; Steam is not the only option, and the FAQ also references PC Game Pass. Check your local platform store for current access and purchase terms, which can vary by territory and subscription status. The Steam listing gives June 19, 2025 as the release date. PC requirements and cosmetics
The official FAQ identifies Unreal Engine 5 and gives a minimum GPU requirement of 4 GB VRAM with DirectX 12 and Shader Model 5.0 support. Shader Model 6.6 is used automatically when supported. PC requirements can change, so check the FAQ before buying or troubleshooting. The game also offers cosmetic purchases, including seasonal and themed player and environment items; Sloclap says these do not confer a pay-to-win advantage. Sloclap’s official FAQ
Does Rematch have crossplay?
Crossplay was not available at launch, but Sloclap CEO Pierre Tarno said in a December 2025 interview with GamesRadar that it took more than two months to arrive. That retrospective establishes that crossplay was added after launch, but it does not verify its exact current platform coverage or whether it is functioning today. Check the game’s current platform information for the latest details. Tarno also said, “we underestimated how much players expect it as a basic standard of online multiplayer.” GamesRadar’s December 2025 interview

How has Rematch performed since launch?
Sloclap said the game reached more than 6 million unique players within three months of launch. That is a studio-reported player milestone, not a sales figure. Sloclap separately reported more than 60 million hours played in a developer update dated July 18, 2025. Sloclap’s studio page · Sloclap’s July 18, 2025 developer update
Launch was not trouble-free. In that July 18 update, Sloclap described stability, desynchronization, and matchmaking problems during the first days, followed by near-daily hotfixes during the first two weeks. The studio said online reliability and netcode work remained active at the time. This is a historical account of launch—not a measure of current server conditions. Sloclap’s developer updates
