Aniplex planned and published it, JOYCITY develops and operates it, and Capcom supervises and supports it. It launched on November 18, 2025 (Japan time) in 151 countries and regions on iOS and Android. It is a strategy game with base building and team play, not a mainline Resident Evil horror installment.
What kind of game it is
Aniplex describes the game as a survival strategy simulation, and its official game page uses that classification. The publisher presents it as a new way to experience the franchise’s world, distinct from the BIOHAZARD series games that Capcom makes itself. If you expect the tense, action-led campaigns of the mainline titles, set that expectation aside: the core loop is about planning, managing resources, and commanding a team, with horror themes carried by the setting and characters rather than by a traditional action-horror campaign.

The 151 figure is the number of countries and regions included in the November 2025 launch announcement. It is not a current count of every territory where the game can be downloaded today. The sources reviewed do not confirm whether each early-2026 territory went live as scheduled, and availability can change over time. The reliable test is your local App Store or Google Play listing.
What you do in the game
According to Aniplex’s launch description, you build a base in a ruined city, secure resources, and fight creatures. The publisher also mentions single-player and puzzle elements alongside real-time connections with players worldwide, alliances, and strategic cooperation, so the game covers both solo progression and shared play.
Base building and resources
The base is the center of the experience. Gathering resources supports building and sustaining it, and the publisher frames this as the foundation for everything else you do in the game.
Rank #2
- Enter the Guard House and underground Aqua Ring in tense new scenarios featuring sinister new mechanics. You’ll encounter flooded tiles, undead insects, the ferocious Neptune, and the constant threat of Plant-42’s searching vines dragging you into the depths...
- Are you brave enough to explore this strange world and face these two huge new bosses, so large they take up multiple squares?
- Including six gripping new scenarios, this expansion adds 8 hours of extra gameplay to your Resident Evil: The Board Game campaigns. Or, play each scenario as a terrifying standalone experience.
Teams and familiar characters
Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine are among the named returning characters. Aniplex says players can form teams across the boundaries of the original games and use each character’s individual skills strategically. Team composition is therefore a main decision, not decoration.
Hub and defensive battles
The July 2025 announcement describes a mansion hub where characters live, with conversation events, familiar environmental details, and a weapons merchant where you can buy items. Defensive battles use character skills and stage mechanics, which is where the strategy layer is most visible.
Multiplayer and alliances
Real-time connections with players worldwide and alliances let you cooperate beyond solo play. Aniplex presents this as part of the strategic design rather than a separate mode.
Rank #3
- As consciousness returns and you blink shadows from your eyes, all you can hear is the ringing in your ears. At first, you think it might be from the bells, as you recall racing through the Clock Tower in search of gears to sound the great bell.
- Then the blood drains from your face as the memories begin to surface. You thought you’d escaped Raccoon City. But it isn’t over yet.
- Continue your desperate escape with 11 hours of new gameplay, nine gripping new scenarios, three terrifying new enemy types, and two large-and-lethal bosses.
- This expansion will drastically change the course of your Resident Evil 3: The Board Game campaign, taking you beyond the built-up city streets to brand new locations plagued by new enemies.
- But new enemies aren’t your only threat. To move forward, you must adapt to new gameplay mechanics introduced by the changed environment. Creep silently through the City Hospital. Wade through flood water in the City Park.
The story: a parallel world
The July 2025 announcement gives the premise. The protagonist wakes up in a mysterious, closed hospital after being held as a test subject by the Umbrella Corporation, and then tries to escape. The story develops into a parallel world with returning characters from the franchise. Aniplex positions this as its own narrative rather than a numbered mainline entry, so it sits alongside the series rather than continuing it directly.
Yoshitaka Amano and Mortem
Painter and illustrator Yoshitaka Amano participated as guest designer and created Mortem, an original creature for the game. The launch notice describes Mortem as symbolizing invisible fear and anxiety.
Aniplex attributes this Japanese statement to Amano: 「怖さとは、見た目だけでなく、心理的なもの」. A close English rendering is “Fear is psychological, not just visual.” If you quote it, use the Japanese wording verbatim and identify Amano as the guest designer.
Cost: free to start
The official launch notice describes the game as basically free to play, with in-app purchases. The sources reviewed do not establish current item prices or the exact contents of purchases, so check the in-game store and the App Store or Google Play listing for those details before spending money.
Checking whether it is available to you
- Open the App Store on iOS or Google Play on Android, using the device and account region you normally use.
- Search for “BIOHAZARD Survival Unit,” the game’s Japanese-market title.
- Confirm that the listing shows Aniplex as the publisher. If the listing is missing, your country or region may not yet be included.
- If you are in one of the early-2026 territories listed by Aniplex, and the listing is still missing, the rollout may not have reached your location yet.
The official Aniplex game page links to the iOS and Android versions, which is the most direct way to confirm you have the correct listing.
- Requirements to check before downloading: a supported iOS or Android device, and enough storage space for the app.
- Expect in-app purchases; the game is free to start but is not free to fully customize.
In short, Resident Evil: Survival Unit is a free-to-start mobile strategy game built around base management, resource collection, team building, and online cooperation within the Resident Evil world. It is an alternative take on the franchise, not a mainline horror installment.
