It is not an option in the game’s settings. Fortnite’s legitimate, documented feature is Aim Assist, a control setting for gamepad players. Epic’s rules prohibit cheats, and that includes tools that give aiming help without being an obvious aimbot.
What the label means, and where its limits are
The term has no agreed technical definition. Epic’s Terms of Service, its Fortnite support pages and its Creative documentation do not define “soft aim” or describe how any particular tool would work. In plain language, players use the label for an unauthorized program or device that nudges a player’s aim in their favour while looking less overt than a fully automated aimbot. Treat that as a description of the effect players are reacting to, not a verified account of how a specific cheat operates.

How soft aim differs from Aim Assist
Aim Assist is part of the game. Epic’s Fortnite Creative documentation describes it as a control setting that can be toggled on or off for gamepad controllers. Soft aim, as players use the term, is not a menu option. It refers to outside software or hardware, which is why the two should never be treated as the same thing.

What Epic’s Terms prohibit
Epic’s Terms of Service cover Fortnite as one of their Licensed Products. They prohibit cheats of every kind, including cheat software, tools and hardware, and they prohibit using, encouraging, developing, distributing or supporting them. The rule reaches the device as well: having cheats present on or connected to the device used to access a Licensed Product is itself prohibited.

The Gameplay Integrity section states the consequence directly:
“Merely having Cheats present on the device you use to access Licensed Products may result in your Epic Games Account being suspended or terminated.”

Evidence of cheating can also lead to suspension or termination.
Penalties under Epic’s February 27, 2025 anti-cheat update
Epic’s anti-cheat update dated February 27, 2025 sets out the penalty structure below. That update is more than a year and a half old as of October 2026, so check Epic’s current Fortnite pages for any later change before relying on the exact durations.

The same update says that Cronus hardware and other devices offering a competitive advantage are restricted and will result in a cheating ban. Those devices follow the same first-offense and second-offense structure as the table describes.
Why Epic’s detection details stay vague
- Epic’s Terms state that Epic does not need to reveal how its Gameplay Integrity Tools work, or which specific devices or tools it has detected.
- The February 27, 2025 update says Epic uses technical evidence, but describes its detection methods only at a high level.
- Epic Games Support states: “Epic Games Support cannot determine or disclose whether using a specific third-party software can lead to a ban in Fortnite.” It also says Fortnite does not officially support third-party software.
- No Epic source supports claims that a cheat is undetectable or that a specific external program is safe to use.
Strong aim alone is not evidence of cheating
High accuracy on its own does not prove that a player is using a cheat. Players with fast reactions, a well-tuned gamepad setup, or Aim Assist switched on can land many shots. Epic’s rules target cheat tools and devices, not the fact that someone is good at aiming, so a judgment based only on kill counts or accuracy is a weak basis for accusing anyone.

How to report suspected cheating
- Use in-game reporting to flag a player for rule violations.
- Epic’s Terms also point players to Epic’s report form for rule violations.
- The Fortnite Code of Conduct says players should not cheat or promote known cheats. It describes consequences ranging from a warning to a permanent ban.
A report describes what you observed in a match. It is not a finding that a player cheated, and it should not name a specific program unless you can describe that program accurately.
