SONIC PICO PARK is an upcoming cooperative action puzzle game that brings SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog characters and familiar series features into the teamwork-focused PICO PARK format. Players will work together to reach each stage’s goal, using moves such as Spin Dash alongside rings, loops, and springs. The game is scheduled to release on November 12, 2026, for consoles and PC.
That combination makes it different from a conventional Sonic game built around one hero racing through a level alone. The available descriptions instead put group coordination at the center, with Sonic moves and stage elements incorporated into puzzles. Here is what has been confirmed about its characters, gameplay, player count, online options, platforms, and release timing—and what remains unknown before launch.

What is SONIC PICO PARK?
SONIC PICO PARK is a collaboration between the PICO PARK series and SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog. Its official genre is “Cooperative action puzzle,” which is a useful guide to what to expect: the central challenge is coordinating with other players to complete stages, not racing through a conventional solo Sonic platformer.
The official game page presents the collaboration as part of Sonic’s 35th anniversary. It also identifies the game as the latest entry in the PICO PARK series. That means the game draws on two recognizable ideas: the teamwork-oriented PICO PARK format and characters and features associated with Sonic. The official information describes a co-op puzzle game, rather than a standard Sonic adventure that happens to include a multiplayer mode.

The stated stage objective is straightforward to understand: players cooperate to reach the goal plate on the right side of each stage. The puzzle lies in getting the group there. Steam’s description identifies familiar Sonic elements—rings, loops, and springs—as part of the stages, and says every playable character can use Sonic’s Spin Dash. These features are presented as components of the shared challenge, not as evidence that the game is focused on solo speedrunning.
SEGA said in a June 8, 2026 announcement that the PICO PARK series had surpassed 8 million cumulative sales worldwide. That is useful context for the established series behind this collaboration, but it is a series-wide figure. It is not a sales result, estimate, or forecast for SONIC PICO PARK, which is still upcoming at the time covered here.
Which characters are in SONIC PICO PARK?
The official game page names five characters: PICO CAT, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. They are the confirmed names in the available official listing. The available official listing does not establish that this is the complete final roster, so it would be premature to say that no other characters will appear.
Recommended Free Tools
Steam says all playable characters can use Sonic’s Spin Dash. That is the clearest stated shared ability: the move is not described as exclusive to Sonic. The game therefore appears to put a recognizable Sonic action into the hands of the playable cast, while keeping cooperation as the larger objective.
A hands-on preview of eight levels at Summer Game Fest 2026 reported additional abilities in the build it played. In that preview, Tails could fly and pick up teammates, while Knuckles could glide to extend jumps. Those examples suggest ways that character abilities could help a group navigate a stage, but they should be treated as pre-release observations. They do not confirm how every character ability will work in the final version, or whether the preview build represents the full set of mechanics.
The available material does not give a complete character-by-character ability chart. It also does not establish whether players can freely choose any character at any time, whether the cast has different stats, or whether a particular character is required for certain stages. Until official final details answer those questions, the safe expectation is the confirmed roster names and the explicitly described Spin Dash, with Tails’ and Knuckles’ preview abilities clearly understood as observations from the shown build.
How does the gameplay work?
Steam describes a 2D action puzzle game in which players cooperate to reach the goal plate at the right side of each stage. Sonic-style elements include rings, loops, and springs, while the Spin Dash is available to all playable characters. The combination puts familiar Sonic movement and scenery in service of shared puzzle-solving.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThat distinction matters if you are deciding whether the game sounds like your kind of Sonic experience. The goal is not described as beating other players to the finish, or as completing a long solo platforming campaign. The official genre and Steam description emphasize working together to reach a common goal. Sonic’s recognizable moves and objects give the puzzle format its theme and tools, while the cooperative objective determines how players approach the stage.

Teamwork is the main challenge
In TechRadar’s Summer Game Fest 2026 preview, one stage involved sharing a ring to get past a laser hazard. Another used springs to cross gaps and loops as part of the route. These examples show the kind of coordination the preview build called for: players had to treat an item or route feature as part of a group solution rather than simply concentrate on their own character’s progress.
In practical terms, a shared obstacle can make timing and communication important. If a stage’s route depends on players using a ring together or helping one another across a gap, the group has to consider how its actions fit together. That is a reasonable implication of the reported examples, not a full list of the game’s puzzles. The preview described eight levels, not every stage or mechanic in the final game.
The examples also help explain why the Spin Dash and Sonic-themed stage features do not automatically make this a conventional speed platformer. A ring can be involved in solving a laser hazard, and springs or loops can form part of a route that players must negotiate together. The action remains in service of solving the shared problem and reaching the goal plate.
How it differs from a typical Sonic platformer
The advertised objective is to get the group to the goal, and Steam’s description emphasizes cooperation. Sonic’s moves and recognizable stage features are part of that puzzle structure; the official description does not frame the game as a standard solo speed-platforming adventure. Players interested in a familiar Sonic cast but a different style of play should therefore focus on the “cooperative action puzzle” label when judging whether it fits their expectations.
Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka acknowledged the unusual fit in a GamesRadar+ interview, saying: “When I first saw the concept and the whole idea, I was kind of like, ‘Is this gonna be a Sonic game?’” The quote captures the question the crossover may raise for fans: it uses Sonic characters and moves, but applies them to a PICO PARK-style cooperative puzzle premise. It should not be read as a statement that the game lacks Sonic elements; the official listing specifically names Spin Dash, rings, loops, and springs.
Can you play SONIC PICO PARK with friends?
Yes. The official Steam listing says the game supports local and online cooperative play for two to eight players, and that all content can be played with any number of players. Steam also lists shared/split-screen co-op as a feature. In other words, the described multiplayer options include playing together in person and playing online, with the listed group size ranging from two players to eight.
The “all content” detail is useful for groups that may not always be able to assemble a full party. The listing does not describe an eight-player minimum for accessing content; it says content can be played with any number of players within the supported range. It does not, however, explain every adjustment the game may make for different group sizes. The source supports the player-count flexibility claim, not assumptions about how stage difficulty or mechanics scale.
If you are planning a session, the main confirmed decision is whether your group wants to play locally or online. The listing supports both. It does not provide comparative information about network quality, latency, or performance on the different platforms, so no current listing establishes that one connection type or platform will provide a better online session.

Online play and cross-play
Steam says online play supports cross-play. That is the official listing’s stated online compatibility feature. The available information does not spell out every platform combination, account requirement, invitation process, or region-specific limitation, so check the final platform details if your group plans to play across different systems.
Steam also says that up to seven local players can join online from one PC. That arrangement could let a large group gathered around one computer connect to other online players, while remaining within the listed maximum of eight players. The listing does not explain the exact setup steps, hardware requirements, or controls needed for those local participants, so do not assume that every configuration will work without checking the final instructions.
Cross-play and local-plus-online play are practical reasons to consider how your group is split up before choosing where to play. If everyone is in one room, local co-op is listed. If friends are in different places, online co-op is listed. If some are together and others are remote, the up-to-seven-local-player Steam detail is relevant specifically to one PC. These are supported play arrangements described by the listing; the listing does not establish claims about online reliability or platform parity.

The listing supports shared/split-screen co-op, making local play on PC an option. A controller may be convenient for a group sharing a computer, but the listing does not name a required controller or say that one is necessary. It also does not provide a detailed control scheme, specify how many input devices are needed, or describe the final setup process.
For that reason, treat a controller as an optional practical consideration rather than a purchase requirement. If you plan to play locally on a PC, check the final Steam listing and instructions for supported inputs and setup before buying accessories. The sources reviewed do not identify a particular controller, accessory, or extra cost associated with playing.
How many players can play?
The listed range is two to eight players. Steam says all content can be played with any number of players, so the game is not described as requiring a full group to access its content. The sources do not explain every possible group-size adjustment, but they do support the basic answer for readers planning a session: it is listed for small groups as well as larger ones, up to eight players.
The range is relevant both for local gatherings and online groups. Steam’s listing says local and online co-op are supported, and separately specifies that up to seven local players can join online from one PC. That PC detail is not the same as saying that eight people can join from one computer; the maximum of seven local participants can connect online with other players, subject to the total listed limit of eight.

The game is scheduled for November 12, 2026. The official game page lists Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, and Steam. Steam independently gives the same date and says the game is not yet available. The official page and Steam listing are the sources to check for the controlling release date and platform information. As with any unreleased title, the scheduled date could be updated; recheck those listings close to launch for current availability. No final price is provided in the available official listings, so no platform-specific cost or preorder price can be stated here. It also does not establish whether every platform’s store page will use the same availability timing or offer the same purchase options.
Steam shows November 12, 2026 and indicates that the game is not yet available as of October 13, 2026. That status is useful context, but it is time-sensitive. Readers arriving after the listed date should verify current status instead of relying on an earlier pre-release report.

Official listings establish the genre, named characters, multiplayer range, supported platforms, and scheduled date. Preview reporting adds examples of how teamwork and character abilities worked in the build shown, but it is not a substitute for final-release details. Keeping those evidence types separate helps set expectations for a game that is still pre-release as of October 13, 2026.
