Most gaming coverage expands it as “Second Valuable Player,” and it recognizes a player whose match was high-impact even though the team did not win. It does not appear to be a visible scoreboard stat, and the exact way it is chosen has not been published by the developer. Coverage also conflicts on whether it protects ranked points, so that question needs a separate check.
What the acronym stands for
“Second Valuable Player” is the expansion used by most guides and news coverage, including India Today Gaming (December 6, 2024) and Beebom (December 6, 2024). Siliconera (December 9, 2024) writes “Secondary Valuable Player” instead. Neither expansion is confirmed in official game documentation, so treat “Second Valuable Player” as common usage rather than an official label. The pairing with MVP, “Most Valuable Player,” is the reason most guides describe SVP as a runner-up recognition.

How the award appears after a match
SVP is shown on the end-of-match screen, after the MVP reveal, according to Siliconera’s December 2024 description. Descriptions of the layout differ by date:

- Later coverage (Boosting Market, updated August 31, 2026): the post-match podium has four positions, with an MVP and an SVP for the winning team and an MVP and an SVP for the losing team.
The 2026 layout is the most recent description available, but it is a third-party guide rather than an official patch note. If your post-match screen shows something different, the screen is the more reliable guide for your client version.

What the award appears to reward
Guides describe SVP as recognition of overall contribution rather than one visible statistic. The categories most often named are:
- Damage dealt and eliminations
- Staying alive for longer during the match
- Role-based support, such as healing done or damage blocked
The weighting of these categories has not been published. India Today Gaming (June 3, 2025) notes that the developers had not confirmed the formula, and the 2026 guide says NetEase never officially published the weighting. Because of that, do not assume that a high kill count alone earns SVP, and do not treat any percentage breakdown you find online as verified.

Does SVP protect ranked points?
This is the point where coverage disagrees. India Today Gaming (December 6, 2024), India Today Gaming (June 3, 2025), and Beebom (December 6, 2024) each report that an SVP in a competitive loss means the player does not lose rank points. Boosting Market’s August 31, 2026 guide says MVP and SVP recognition does not affect LP, which is the League Points figure used in ranked play.

Marvel Rivals’ official patch notes describe ranked scoring and other point compensation, including compensation tied to verified cheating or malicious teammate behavior. The notes located do not establish an SVP-based refund or exemption. Until an official source confirms the rule, do not plan around SVP as rank protection.

To check your own result after a ranked loss:
- Open the post-match summary and note whether you received SVP or MVP recognition.
- Compare your LP change on the ranked screen with the expected loss for that match.
- Check the official Marvel Rivals news and patch notes for any update to ranked settlement rules.
If your LP loss is smaller than you expected, that result alone does not prove that SVP caused it. Other compensation mechanics may be involved.

Because the award’s presentation has changed between coverage dates, the most current source for your build is the in-game post-match screen. For rules that affect rank, the official Marvel Rivals patch notes and announcements are the authoritative reference. Third-party guides are useful for context on the award’s history, but they should not be treated as official rule documents.
