No single off-road buggy is the best in every Forza event. The question does not name a game, so this article assumes Forza Horizon 5 (FH5). For a purpose-built buggy, start with the 2021 Alumicraft #122 Class 1 Buggy. If your event is restricted to Unlimited Buggies, compare it against the 2015 Alumicraft Class 10 Race Car, which Forza’s official FH5 car list places in that category. Which one is the right pick depends on the event’s eligibility rules and the course, so check those before you spend money on upgrades.
Start with the Alumicraft #122 for general off-road racing
The Alumicraft #122 Class 1 Buggy is the strongest starting point if you want a car built for rough terrain rather than a rally car adapted to dirt. Forza’s Rally Adventure announcement (2023) describes the real chassis as designed for extreme off-road use, and the FH5 version is the one you can drive in the game. The car was added to FH5 as a Rally Adventure reward, so you earn it through that mode rather than buying it from a dealer.
The car’s specifications are covered in the figures section below. What matters for choosing it is that the design intent is aimed at cross-country conditions, not short dirt circuits.
Unlimited Buggies: the 2015 Alumicraft Class 10 Race Car
If your event is explicitly restricted to Unlimited Buggies, the 2015 Alumicraft Class 10 Race Car is the car to compare against the #122. Forza’s official FH5 car list places it in that category. Its acquisition sources are in the table below. Because it is in the Unlimited Buggies category, it is the car to test first when an event uses that restriction, but you should still verify eligibility in the event menu.

Check eligibility before you choose
Vehicles called “buggy” do not share one in-game classification. Two cars with similar names can sit in different categories, which changes whether they can enter a given event. The table below separates what is established from what is not.
| Vehicle | Official FH5 category | How to obtain (per source) |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 Alumicraft #122 Class 1 Buggy | Not established from Forza’s official car list; confirm in the event entry screen | Rally Adventure reward (Forza Rally Adventure announcement, 2023) |
| 2015 Alumicraft Class 10 Race Car | Unlimited Buggies (Forza official FH5 car list) | Autoshow and Wheelspin (Forza official FH5 car list) |
| 2018 MINI X-Raid John Cooper Works Buggy | Offroad (Forza official FH5 car list) | Not stated in the official car list |
| 2018 Can-Am Maverick X RS Turbo R | UTVs (Forza official FH5 car list) | Not stated in the official car list |
| Hoonigan Ford RS200 Evolution | Rally car, not a buggy; official category not established here | Not stated in the official car list |
The practical rule is simple: the event’s restriction decides eligibility, not the car’s real-world name. An Offroad-category MINI can be a strong pick in a general off-road event but cannot enter an Unlimited Buggies event. A UTV-category Maverick falls under the same logic.

Other buggy-style cars you will see recommended
MINI X-Raid John Cooper Works Buggy
Forza’s official list places this car in Offroad, not Unlimited Buggies. It is a legitimate option for general off-road events where Offroad entries are allowed. Test it against the #122 before deciding.
Can-Am Maverick X RS Turbo R
Forza’s official list places this car in UTVs. It is useful only in events that accept UTV entries. Do not assume it competes in buggy-only classes.

Hoonigan Ford RS200 Evolution
Third-party off-road rankings often put the Hoonigan Ford RS200 Evolution first, including the ForzaFire ranking. It is a rally car, not a buggy, so treat it as a broader off-road alternative rather than the answer to a buggy-specific restriction. Community rankings also do not establish a controlled comparison across class caps, events, and tunes.
ForzaLabs publishes a separate list titled “Best Unlimited Buggies by Offroad in Forza Horizon 5.” It answers a narrower question than the ForzaFire ranking and is the better reference when your event uses the Unlimited Buggies restriction. Neither list is an official endorsement.

Choose by course
Match the car to the terrain you will race on:
- Dirt circuits with tight corners: prioritize predictable cornering and acceleration out of turns. The Class 10 and the #122 both need to be checked against this, since their stock handling and tune potential differ.
- Cross-country courses with large jumps and rough ground: favor stability and control on landing. A car that rides well over bumps but unsettles on landings will cost time on every jump.
- Mixed events: Forza’s Rally Adventure description separates short-course bumps, jumps, and berms from extreme off-road conditions. Use that split to decide whether an extreme off-road car is worth the extra handling trade-off.
Test before you upgrade
Run the candidate cars in the actual event with stock tunes first. Compare lap or stage times on the same course, same conditions, and same class. This matters because stock performance, upgrade path, and tune can produce different results, and no published test compares all of these cars across every condition. Treat any community leaderboard or shared tune as a starting point, not a guarantee.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the published figures do and do not show
- Power in FH5: Forza’s announcement (2023) states that the FH5 version of the #122 uses a Chevy LS3 producing approximately 500 horsepower to the rear wheels. This is the in-game figure, not a measured lap or race result.
- Front suspension travel: 22 inches on the real Alumicraft chassis, as reported by Forza / Xbox Game Studios (2023). This describes the chassis, not an in-game test.
- Rear suspension travel: 23 inches on the real Alumicraft chassis, as reported by Forza / Xbox Game Studios (2023). The same caveat applies.
These are vehicle specifications. They do not show race wins, handling scores, or a universal best-in-class ranking. Neither Forza’s announcement nor the official car list publishes a win rate, handling score, or lap-time comparison for these cars.

Getting the cars
If you do not own Forza Horizon 5, the game itself is the only direct purchase path covered here. The buggies are not sold separately. Obtain the Class 10 through Autoshow or Wheelspin, and the #122 through Rally Adventure, as shown in the table above.
For a dependable answer in your own game, confirm the event’s category restriction, run the #122 and the Class 10 (where eligible) in that event, and pick the one that is faster on your course.
