The right pick depends on your progression stage and whether you need damage, stealth, mobility, or survivability. Calamity’s official armor progression guide groups recommendations into Pre-Hardmode, Hardmode, and Post-Moon Lord, so start with the stage you have reached rather than treating one set as a universal winner.
How to choose Rogue armor
Rogue is a Calamity class built around thrown Rogue weapons and a stealth mechanic supported by its armor. That means armor choice is not just a matter of maximizing damage: stealth-related bonuses, defense, mobility, and the conditions attached to an ability can all affect how useful a set is in a particular fight. See the official Rogue reference for the class overview.

Use the official armor progression guide as the stage-based starting point. It separates suggested armor by Pre-Hardmode, Hardmode, and Post-Moon Lord. The available reference material does not establish a complete, current ranked list of the best Rogue set for every intermediate point, so it would be misleading to name one definitive winner for every stage.
- Damage and stealth: Consider whether a set improves Rogue damage or supports stealth, and whether that suits the weapons and approach you use.
- Survivability and movement: A mobility benefit can help avoid attacks, but it may come with a defensive cost.
- Encounter fit: Some recommendations depend on the boss, arena, or how comfortable you are with a fight.
- Acquisition: A set that is difficult or highly random to obtain may not be a practical upgrade for your immediate needs.
Pre-Hardmode: Desert Prowler is a trade-off, not a universal answer
Desert Prowler armor is an example of a Pre-Hardmode Rogue option. Its Sandsmoke ability increases mobility while reducing defense, and its supercritical-hit interaction has a condition. Those effects can make it attractive when movement is more valuable to you than extra protection, but they do not make it the right choice for every encounter or player. The official Rogue Class reference describes the ability and its condition.

For other Pre-Hardmode recommendations, consult the official Pre-Hardmode class setups guide alongside the armor progression guide. Consider your current boss and arena rather than assuming one named set is best across the whole stage.
Hardmode: use the stage guide and account for encounter-specific caveats
Hardmode covers multiple points of progression, so a single Rogue armor recommendation for the entire stage can obscure meaningful changes in what is available and useful. The official armor progression guide includes caveats that can affect whether an option makes sense, including familiarity with a boss, the use of a water arena, tedious acquisition, or extreme RNG. Treat these as practical parts of the recommendation, not minor footnotes: a theoretically strong set may be a poor immediate target if its acquisition is unusually burdensome or its advantages depend on conditions you are not using.

- Classic Terraria gameplay now with console specific control system, and a friendly crafting/item interface.
- Online multiplayer with you to 8 players! Split-screen multiplayer 2-4 players.
- New Enemies and Final Boss, as well as Ultimate Weapons, new Armors and Pets never seen before!

For Hardmode Rogue class setups, check the official Hardmode class setups guide and compare its stage-specific suggestions with the armor progression guide. The available references do not verify every intermediate-stage pick as a definitive ranking, so choose from the recommendation that matches your current progression and encounter rather than relying on an unsupported all-Hardmode best list.

Empyrean armor is a post-Moon Lord Rogue example. The official Rogue Class reference describes bonuses including more maximum stealth and effects for Rogue weapons. These make it relevant when considering late-game Rogue gear, but they do not establish that it is the best set for every post-Moon Lord situation or resolve choices at earlier stages. Check the current progression guide for the point you have reached.

Quick decision framework
- Identify your stage: Pre-Hardmode, Hardmode, or Post-Moon Lord.
- Check the matching official guide: Use the armor progression guide first, then the class setups guide for your stage when relevant.
- Match the trade-off to your fight: Weigh damage and stealth against defense and mobility, and note any encounter or arena condition.
- Factor in the effort to obtain it: If the guide flags tedious acquisition or extreme RNG, decide whether the upgrade is worth pursuing now.
