Who is behind the campaign?
Gizchina reported on September 26, 2025, that an activist group called Gaming Consumer Rights had launched a website promoting a Nintendo boycott. What concerns did Gaming Consumer Rights raise?
The report attributed several concerns to the campaign. These are the group’s positions, not established findings in the report:
- Pricing and availability: The campaign criticized pricing and made claims about stock availability, but the report offered no primary data to establish those claims.
- Ownership and Game-Key Cards: The group argued that Game-Key Cards limit ownership and tie players to locked digital systems. That is the campaign’s interpretation, rather than an independently established description of what the format means for every game or player.
- Repairability and reliability: The group raised concerns about repairability and alleged hardware failures. The report supplied no primary data establishing a failure rate or substantiating those allegations.
- Forced upgrades: The campaign objected to what it characterized as pressure on consumers to upgrade.
What did the reported website include?
Gizchina said the site had pages titled Economics, Specs Comparison, Physical Ownership, and FAQ, along with Gaming Alternatives and How to Support sections. The report did not name a particular alternative console or provide enough detail to assess the pages’ individual claims.
