Yes. Change the Nintendo Switch’s system language at System Settings > System > Language, then let the console restart. A game will use that language only if the game supports it; changing the console setting cannot add languages the game does not include.
How to change the language for Switch games
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Scroll down and select System.
- Select Language, then choose the language you want.
- Confirm the change and let the console restart. The restart closes any suspended software.
- Launch the game again. It will use the selected system language if that language is supported by the game.
Nintendo lists English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Korean as system-language options. Why did the game stay in another language?
Nintendo’s rule is conditional: a game defaults to the console’s selected language only when that language is supported by the software. Check the individual game’s official product listing, manual, or publisher support information for its supported languages. Nintendo explains this behavior in Can I Play My Game in Another Language?
Some titles may have their own language selector, but whether one exists—and whether it changes text, voice audio, or both—depends on the specific game. Consult that game’s documentation for its options. No particular title or edition is specified here, so its menu path and language availability cannot be stated reliably.

Should you change the console region?
No—not as a general language fix. Nintendo’s language guidance directs players to the Language setting; Region is a separate console configuration. Start with the system-language steps above, then check the game’s supported languages if it does not change.
