In Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.5 and newer, the command most published guides give for a Sharpness 1000 sword is a single /give line that creates one Netherite sword with that enchantment level. In Bedrock Edition, that Java command does not apply. Microsoft’s documented Bedrock /enchant reference lists Sharpness levels 1 to 5 only, so the Java syntax should not be expected to produce this item there.
The Java Edition command for 1.21.5 and newer
For Java Edition 1.21.5 and later, the command is:
/give @s minecraft:netherite_sword[enchantments={"minecraft:sharpness":1000}] 1The @s part targets the command executor, meaning the player who types the command. To give the sword to another player, replace @s with that player’s username or an appropriate player selector. The command only works if commands or cheats are enabled for the world or server and the player has permission to run them. Copy the line exactly; curly quotation marks pasted from a web page will cause an error.
Older Java versions use different syntax
The same result depends on the game version. Java’s item data format changed twice, so a command written for one range will fail in another. The forms below come from the same secondary guide, iTechGuides, published August 7, 2026. They are not taken from Mojang’s official release notes, so confirm them against your game version before relying on them.

According to that guide, the change at 1.21.5 happened because the enchantments component no longer needs the nested levels object. The earlier change at 1.20.5 came when item components were introduced. Always keep the version label beside the command you copy.

Bedrock Edition: why the Java command does not carry over
Bedrock Edition uses a different command system, and the Java line above is not a substitute there. Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock reference for /enchant describes the command as “Adds an enchantment to a player’s selected item,” and documents Sharpness levels 1 to 5. According to the same secondary guide, standard Bedrock commands do not create a genuine Sharpness 1000 item. If you are on Bedrock, the documented route does not support this over-level item.
What a Sharpness 1000 sword is
Minecraft’s official help describes Sharpness as increasing weapon damage. The level 1000 sword is an over-level item created by a command, not something a player can obtain through ordinary enchanting at a table or anvil. No damage figure for this level is established by the sources behind this article, so this guide does not state one.

If the command fails
Work through these checks in order. The sources confirm that edition, version, and syntax differences cause problems, but they do not provide a complete troubleshooting procedure, so treat this list as a practical checklist rather than a guaranteed fix.
- Confirm the edition. If you are on Bedrock, stop here; the Java command will not apply.
- Confirm the exact game version in your launcher profile or the title screen, then choose the matching row in the table above.
- Recopy the command from this page, replacing any curly quotation marks with straight ones.
- Confirm that cheats are enabled. In singleplayer, the world must have been created with cheats on, or opened to LAN with commands allowed. On a server, the player needs operator permission.
- Check the target. Use
@sfor yourself, or a valid username or selector for another player.
How reliable this information is
Confidence differs by part. The Bedrock range of Sharpness levels 1 to 5 comes from Microsoft Learn’s official reference, which is the most reliable source here. The Java command syntax, including the version breakpoints, comes from a single secondary guide, so treat it as the best available published answer rather than official confirmation.
