Its product designation is HAC-008, and beneath it is a longer alphanumeric identifier that a specialist cartridge reference breaks into game, build and revision fields. That longer stamp is not an eShop redemption code, and it cannot be entered anywhere to unlock content.
Where to find the code and what each part is
Turn the game card over. Near the top of the label, the printed product designation is HAC-008. That is the code Nintendo Life identified for Switch game cards in its 2020 overview of Nintendo console codenames and product codes. Everything shown on the card’s back is printed for the card itself, not for the game as it appears in the eShop.

Below HAC-008 is a longer identifier, which is the stamp people usually mean when they ask about “the code.” The two are separate. HAC-008 tells you the product type. The longer stamp is the part that varies between copies and releases.

How the longer identifier is structured
The most detailed public breakdown comes from BenoitRen’s list of Nintendo Switch cartridge revisions, last updated on 24 August 2025. That list is an independent reference, not an explanation published by Nintendo, so treat its field definitions as a collector’s decoding rather than an official specification.

The reference describes the full identifier as 11 characters long, but the three fields it defines account for only eight characters (4 + 1 + 3). The cited material does not explain the remaining three characters, so do not assume a complete field-by-field decoder from it. If you need to match a specific stamp, compare the whole string against the listing rather than reading individual characters in isolation.
Why it is not an eShop code
Nintendo’s support guidance separates two different kinds of code. Digital download codes are supplied with a purchase, usually on a receipt or inside the packaging, and are entered in the Nintendo eShop to redeem the content. Nintendo’s support page “Error Message: This Code Has Already Been Used” covers that redemption process.

A card’s printed stamp is not part of that process. Typing the HAC-008 designation or the longer identifier into the eShop will not redeem anything. If you have a download code, look for it on the purchase receipt or insert, not on the cartridge.

What the stamp can and cannot tell you
- It can help you compare copies. Collectors use the full identifier, its build and revision fields, and the listing that associates reported stamps with game versions to tell copies apart.
- It does not establish that a revision maps to a particular patch level. The cited list associates reported codes and revisions with versions, but the material does not show that every revision number corresponds to a specific update.
- It does not guarantee downloadable content. A matching stamp does not confirm that all add-on content or the latest patch is present on the card or available for download.
- It does not identify the owner. Nothing in the stamp ties a card to a buyer or account.
- Nintendo’s 3DS explanation does not apply here. Nintendo’s Japanese support FAQ says the numbers printed on the back of 3DS cards record manufacturing-line information. That statement is specific to 3DS cards and should not be extended to Switch.
